John Cena is one of the few WWE superstars who have made it big in Hollywood apart from WWE. The 46-year-old wrestler-turned-actor has delivered some of the amazing movies to his fans. In fact, most of the time, just a cameo appearance from him is enough to set everything in motion. Lately, however, Cena hasn’t been receiving the response he usually does from the audience. Moreover, this has become a recurring thing instead of a one-off instance. The latest release of Cena also turned out to be a flop, making it the third movie in a row to fail.

Writing their reviews, fans and critics have shown their disappointment towards the recent movie of their beloved star.

John Cena has done a fantastic job as an actor who has found his niche in action and comedy movies. While this formula gave him and the films he starred in massive benefits, 2023 saw something totally opposite. Cena’s last three movies, Hidden Strike, Vacation Friends 2, and Freelance have had the same flavors as well. The films have received disappointing ratings from both critics and fans.

While Hidden Strike has a critic rating of 24 percent and a fan rating of  56 percent, Vacation Friends 2 scored 19 percent with the critics and 40 percent with the fans. While Freelance’s rating scores are yet to be generated, the reviews left by fans are not good at all. This is problematic for The Champ as he is losing the confidence of his fans. The upcoming movies of Cena also carry elements of comedy and action.

His next release sees him working in a spy action comedy called Argylle, starring big names like Henry Cavill and Samuel L. Jackson. Cena will also feature in a fantasy comedy called Ricky Stanicky alongside Zac Efron.

This showcases that while Cena is willing to experiment a bit, he is mostly sticking to his genre. While fans and critics hope that these movies will do well, they have expressed their disappointment with his latest movie Freelance.

The people demand accountability from The Champ

Critics took to the website Rotten Tomatoes to express their views and disappointment with his 27 October release, Freelance. One of the critics rated the movie 1.5/4 and said, “Freelance” is an incredibly goofy jumble of tones, flailing about as it overstays its welcome. There’s no need to hire this contractor.”

Awarding a score of just 0.5/4, another fan added, “There’s an oppressive nothingness to “Freelance.” No romance. No comedy. No action.” While one of the voices sided a little with Cena, they still showed their disappointment.

Rating the movie 1/4, the empathetic voice said, “John Cena deserves better. And so do we.” Another critic rated the movie 1/5 and noted, “This lifeless, generic, confusing, unfunny mess is so glaringly out of touch with reality that it makes your head hurt.” A stinging review with a score of 1.5/4 mentioned, “Despite the likeable lead actors, Freelance is an instantly forgettable movie.”

These reviews show the stark dislike fans had towards Cena’s third flop in a row. While Cena may have taken a hit with recent release, he will be looking to bounce back strong with the next string of movies lined up. Fans and critics would patiently wait for their star to climb back on top and adjust the current attitude of people towards his movies.
