When it comes to WWE wrestlers turned actors, there are no bigger names than John Cena and Dwayne The Rock Johnson. While Johnson’s movies have grossed over $12.5 billion worldwide, Cena is yet to hit the double digits in the big league. However, Cena has beaten The Rock in one aspect: securing a place in a $26 Billion company.

Johnson made his movie debut in 2001 with The Mummy Returns, while Cena did so in 2006’s The Marine. Right off the bat, Johnson had more success than Cena, but it seems like Cena is now catching up with the latest piece of news.

James Gunn confirms John Cena will return as Peacemaker

Both Johnson and Cena secured a place in the DCEU. Before his live-action debut as Black Adam in 2022, Johnson voiced the character in DC’s animated movie League of Super-Pets in the same year. Cena did beat Johnson in making his DCEU debut earlier. He appeared as Peacemaker in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn. 2022 would see him reprise the role in the hit TV show Peacemaker, which got a 94% approval rating.

To say that Warner Bro’s DCEU is a mess would be an understatement. The $26 Billion Company appointed Gunn as the head of the new DCU. He will re-establish MARVEL’s rival universe from scratch. While big names like Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, The Rock, and Gal Gadot are unsure about their future, Cena is.

Gunn is known to talk to fans on social media about his upcoming work and movies. This is where he revealed the three actors who have secured a future role in the DCU. Initially, when asked about Cena’s role in the DCU, Gunn was wise to avoid the question. Now that he has some plans for Cena, he was happy to announce the role the leader of the Cenation would play.

“Xolo Maridueña will continue playing Blue Beetle in the DCU, as Viola Davis will Amanda Waller and John Cena will Peacemaker,” Gunn said on social media. He also mentioned that other actors could return to the DCU but not to the characters they played in the DCEU. Speculations have it that Cena could appear in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy movie, which would kick off the DCU slated for 2025.

Nevertheless, the piece of good news pertaining to Cena’s Hollywood career may not play well with wrestling audiences. Wrestling fans could lose out on the presence of both Cena and Johnson who both returned to WWE recently.

Dwayne Johnson and John Cena return to the WWE to be shortlived?

The Hollywood writer’s strike for 148 days significantly impacted the entertainment industry. With the writers of major studios unwilling to work until studios met their demands, several upcoming projects came to a standstill. This resulted in both Cena and The Rock returning to the WWE to be involved in short storylines.

Cena will face Jimmy and Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline at Fastlane. However, Johnson’s WWE storyline has not come to the limelight. People are hoping it will be against his cousin Roman Reigns to dethrone him as the Head of the Table. Regardless, both veteran wrestlers returning to the squared circle have excited fans for future material.
