During the September 4th episode of Monday Night RAW, The Miz addressed the crowd over his loss at Payback. The match against LA Knight featured John Cena as a special guest referee. The match was engaging, with Cena donning the ref’s shirt. However, when Miz tried using the ropes to secure a pin on Knight near the end, Cena called him out. This led to a distraction that allowed Knight to pick up the win.
The Miz was not happy about this during his address to the audience on Miz TV. He announced that his special guest was Cena, but no one came out. The Miz acted as if he was talking to Cena, who could not be seen. The Miz pretended that Cena was in the ring talking to him. He turned Cena’s ‘You Can’t See Me,’ into an entire segment.
The first question for ‘Cena’ by The Miz was, “Did LA Knight pay you?” According to Miz, Cena took a bribe from Knight to affect the outcome of the match.
With Cena not being there, there was no answer. However, The Miz wanted to humiliate Cena. He also had a follow-up question regarding the alleged bribe.
“Did he offer you a job during these hard times?” was his follow-up question. This was a thinly veiled insult to Cena’s new movie not doing well at the box office and the ongoing Hollywood strike. The Miz being great on the mic had the crowd invested as he insinuated that Cena was bribed to make Knight win.
The Miz ended the segment by hitting invisible Cena with a Skull Crushing Finale before challenging Knight to a rematch. This was reminiscent of back-and-forth Cena and The Miz had during their feud.
The Miz vs John Cena, the Age of Awesome
Looking at The Miz call out John Cena was reminiscent of the Cena vs Miz feud, which started in 2009. The Miz was drafted to Monday Night Raw and decided to make a name for himself by taking on the biggest name on the brand, Cena. In 2009, The Miz began a campaign to fight Cena. However, Cena was injured during this time, which Miz took as him forfeiting the match. Miz proclaimed he was 7-0 against Cena, leading the two to face off at 2009’s The Bash finally. In 2010, after winning the WWE Championship, The Miz successfully defended it from Cena at WrestleMania 27.

By 2012, the feud saw a semi-end when Cena won the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules in a Triple Threat Steel Cage match. The feud picked up once again in 2017 on SmackDown, this time with their partners Nikki Bella and Maryse Mizanin getting involved. This feud ended at WrestleMania 33, where the duos competed in a mixed tag team match that saw Cena and Bella pick up the win. The moment was heightened when Cena proposed to Bella right after in the ring.

The feud would become one of the best storylines for The Miz. It got him over as a great heel, and the current feud with LA Knight is getting Knight over spectacularly.
