Wrestling and WWE fans went home during SmackDown 02/02 with a confused look on their face. While many expected Cody Rhodes to win the rumble and battle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, they were instead treated with a returning Dwayne Johnson. Something fans were weary about since The Rock joined the TKO Board of Directors.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made his WWE SmackDown return after a few months, and quickly inserted himself in a feud against Roman Reigns. While, several fans took this happily, many were left disheartened. However, soon enough, a very old tweet from The Rock started going viral.

History repeated itself 12 years later on the road to WrestleMania. After a dejected CM Punk told Rhodes a couple of weeks ago about Johnson taking his spot, it happened again this time. As a deserving Rhodes left ringside with a frown, Dwayne Johnson looked Roman Reigns directly in his eyes.
Soon after the episode came to an end, a decade-old tweet of Johnson started going viral. The tweet read, “CM Punk: it’s simple business – The Rock is the main event at WrestleMania cause it draws more money in one night, then u will in lifetime.”

12 years ago, Dwayne Johnson would take a dig at Punk for calling a part-timer like The Rock being in the WrestleMania main-event spot. And similarly, again this time, The Rock would potentially eliminate Cody Rhodes from his deserving main-event spot at WrestleMania 40.
The Rock is a proven draw, and WWE know this. Roman Reigns vs The Rock is one of the most anticipated matches of all-time, and having these two compete at the grandest stage of them all will be extremely profitable for WWE. However, what does this mean for Cody Rhodes and all the fans who’ve been waiting for the satisfying conclusion of his two year story?

Can Cody Rhodes still finish his story at WrestleMania 40?
Cody Rhodes can challenge Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40 and defeat The Visionary to win the big gold. However, it will still not finish his story. Cody Rhodes was on the quest of winning the WWE Championship, and winning the Heavyweight Championship will not conclude his story. Furthermore, fans were waiting for Rhodes to avenge his painful loss to Reigns last Mania.
With The Rock now potentially main-eventing WrestleMania 40 against Roman Reigns, fans probably need to wait more. Despite being the cover star of WWE 2k24, Cody Rhodes might still not be able to finish his story this time. This is quite disheartening for the fans who have been following the story for over two years. This slap in the face to hardcore fans might come back to haunt WWE as it has done in the past.
