WWE recently saw a major wave of brand-new championships coming to the promotion. Recently, several WWE superstars such as, Rhea Ripley, Asuka, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins were handed the latest and updated World title belts.

However, mid-card champions such as Austin Theory and Gunther were left out of the mix. Both the United States Champion and Intercontinental Champion were not given new title designs, and remain stuck with the old designs. It is also to be noted that they had their titles revamped only a couple of years ago. Recently, when Gunther was asked about a new title, he made his opinion known.

A few years ago, WWE disbanded the classic-looking white strap Intercontinental Championship and brought the current version of the title. Shinsuke Nakamura was the first holder of this title, and slowly it changed hands and landed with Gunther.

Gunther has been the defending champion for over a year now. When asked about his opinion on a new design for the title, Gunther claimed he preferred the old one.

The 35-year-old said, “I’m fine with the one I got. I personally always liked the old design, with the white strap. Things have to develop, and things have to move forward. I think it’s just personal taste. I’m very pleased with how it looks right now.”

Gunther stated that he does not want a new championship, and it is just his own personal taste. The white strap title was a classy looking one, and indeed one of the most gorgeous title belts of all time.

Despite not winning the white-strap title, Gunther is equally pleased with his current Intercontinental Championship and is not in the mood of revamping it.

What has WWE planned for Gunther next?

Gunther is the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in the modern era. With his current run at 379+ days, he is just on the verge of crossing Randy Savage who had 414 days in a single reign.

With SummerSlam nearing, fans expect Gunther to face Matt Riddle at the event in Detroit, and potentially continue his title reign, till Royal Rumble 2024. Gunther’s current run as Intercontinental Champion looks set to continue for some time and it could eventually lead him getting a brand new title belt as well.
