An independent wrestler recently made a big statement in an interview wherein he stated that he declined an offer from WWE. The 36-year-old wrestler said that his only demand from WWE was to wrestle against Dwayne Johnson. However, since that couldn’t be arranged, nothing else could convince him to accept WWE’s offer.

Joey Janela is an independent circuit pro wrestler who was previously signed with Tony Khan’s AEW. Janela was recently featured in an interview, claiming he had received a WrestleMania offer where he demanded to go against Dwayne Johnson. In fact, he also mentioned that he had the perfect plot to kick things off against The Rock.

Joey Janela recently appeared for an online video interview with the Fightful Overbooked YouTube Channel. Taking the mic, Janela said, “When WWE hit me up, I said, ‘Listen, the only way I’m coming in is if I wrestle The Rock at WrestleMania.’” Janela’s words indicate that he wasn’t merely interested in wrestling Dwayne Johnson, but was looking forward to it.

Janela further added, “They said, ‘We have this plan for you, we want you to wrestle with The Miz.’ I said, ‘The Miz is cool and all, but I have to wrestle The Rock. No Rock, no go.’ ‘Rock is filming a movie.’ ‘Too damn bad, you don’t get Joey Janela.’” While usually every pro wrestler would love some ring time at WWE, Janela’s sights were only fixed on Dwayne Johnson.

Born Joseph Janela, the 36-year-old didn’t seem to have any problem rejecting an offer made directly to him for WWE’s biggest PLE. According to the pro wrestler, he is getting many such offers from various outfits but is enjoying an independent circuit run at the moment. 

While directly putting Dwayne Johnson against a new wrestler would’ve seemed odd, Janela had the perfect script to pull off an entertaining battle with The Rock.

According to Janela in the same interview, “I pitched an angle to them, to WWE, to be a deranged paparazzi. The Rock is walking out of a steakhouse in LA and you see snapshots. Almost like DPP-Undertaker storyline. Eventually, the paparazzi jump The Rock and it’s big Who Dun It?”

Janela then revealed himself as the perpetrator paparazzi who attacked Dwayne Johnson.

Janela continued, “And then it’s me, and we wrestle at WrestleMania in Hollywood. The reveal is cops reveal it in a mugshot. ‘We have the mugshot of the paparazzi,’ and it’s me—disgraced AEW wrestler Joey Janela. I have to go over The Rock too.” Despite his brilliant pitch to WWE, the team of Triple H wasn’t on the same page as Janela.
