In the last week, WWE has seen several changes in its upper management. TKO board members observed two big changes in the team. One was Vince McMahon‘s resignation from all of his posts in TKO and its subsidiaries, while the other pivotal change in the business was the addition of Dwayne Johnson as one of the members of the 12 existing directors.

Ever since The Rock joined the company again as a director, fans have been wondering what his importance would be. Apart from the crucial role that he will be playing in supervising several functions on the board, Johnson’s presence will prove much more important.

Recently, WWE closed a 10-year deal with Netflix. Monday Night Raw will air on Netflix starting January 2025 and the streaming giant will pay WWE over $5 billion for the next 10 years. Now, former booker Eric Bischoff believes that Johnson’s presence in the company will help push WWE toward the avenue of more mainstream entertainment.

Vince McMahon’s real-life rival recently sat down in a podcast episode of 83 Weeks. Co-host Conrad Thompson asked Bischoff about his views on DJ’s onboarding onto the TKO Group board of directors.

The WCW legend said, “When you think about it from that context, having someone like The Rock who is now the face of the company, who has a gigantic footprint in film, less so in television outside of wrestling, but really in film. I think WWE is going to need that next step into mainstream entertainment.

Then, Bischoff also revealed how Johnson’s experience in revealing balances things out for the team because “Ari Emanuel and Nick Khan are brand new at this game. They don’t understand the audience… They have not been in the trenches, [The] Rock has. As well as having been in the trenches outside of wrestling.

According to Eric Bischoff, Dwayne Johnson’s presence as a TKO board member is needed for the company to move into the next phase of its growth in mainstream entertainment. With Vince McMahon exiting the company, Johnson’s addition could help in preventing any issues for the company, as far as the company’s face is concerned. This was recently evidenced by the fact that Johnson’s addition to the company had shot up stock prices, to the point that McMahon’s exit seemed to barely have an impact.
