“I Was Stolen From an Orphanage”: Ric Flair Candidly Reveals a Dark Secret About His Childhood, Unveils His Real Name

The 16-time World Champion Ric Flair is a legend of the pro wrestling industry who is also considered by many a part of Mount Rushmore of Wrestling before the Attitude Era. During the heights of his popularity, Flair saw it all from helicopter rides to driving the most luxurious cars. But Flair’s life has been full of struggles with many twists and turns, starting from birth.

In an interview with Liz Claman on the Podcast ‘Everyone Talks to Liz Claman’, Flair revealed a tragic story of his childhood. The episode is titled ‘A “Flair” For The Dramatics: Pro Wrestler Ric Flair On His Six Decades Of Life Smackdowns’, and is available on the Fox News Radio website.

Ric Flair does not know who his real parents are

Host Liz Claman had a candid talk with the Nature Boy in an interview that revolved around his nearly five decades in pro wrestling. It is known that Ric Flair’s original name was Richard Morgan Fliehr. But in the interview with Fox News, he revealed a dark secret about him along with his real name.

While talking about his story, Flair said, “I have no idea, I don’t remember the story. I was stolen from an orphanage. Yeah, I was stolen, from an orphanage back then, that I can’t think of the name of. And I was stolen from an Orphanage, and that was like a black market of babies.”

Flair revealed to Claman that he was adopted from an orphanage that he does not remember the name of. He does not have any memory of his real parents as he was stolen from an orphanage.

Due to the horrendous nature of the incident, Flair drew an analogy with a black market of babies.

He further stated, “And my real name is Fred Phillips, I guess.” Flair had changed his name to Richard Morgan Fliehr before adopting his ring name, Ric Flair. He then went to express his feelings about his birth.

Flair does not care about the dark secret anymore

The 74-year-old then revealed that he is not bothered about the incident anymore. He said, “I don’t know, not to bother. I mean, my life has had twists and turns. But that part of it, people make a lot bigger part of, out of than I do. I’ve never cared who my real parents were.”

Flair moved on from the incident long ago when he heard the truth from his adopted parents Richard and Kathleen Fliehr. Since then, he has celebrated his birthday on March 18, the day he was adopted, instead of his actual birth date, February 25.
