As a part of the WCW roster, Hulk Hogan achieved success as a heel. While he signed in Ted Turner’s company, The Hulkster reportedly had creative control in WCW. A WWE Hall of Famer credits ‘The Immortal One’ for helping him and his partner climb up the ladders, back in the days of WCW.
This WWE legend claims Hogan was very much optimistic about his tag team while he was in WCW. Hence, the six-time WCW Champion’s “some influence” helped his team to have a boost.

Making it into the pro wrestling business is indeed tough. However, if the right person is impressed, they’ll surely help the newcomer rise in the company. A similar thing happened with Booker T and Stevie Ray back in the WCW.
Recently while remembering Sherri Martel on his Hall of Fame podcast, the 58-year-old recalled how she started managing Harlem Heat. Booker T credited The Hulkster for the same for that helped the 10-time WCW Tag Team champions in a huge way.
The NXT commentator said, “I think Hogan had some influence with that. I know Hogan wanted to put the rocket on us and they tried a few managers with us before Sherri. You know, none of them really worked out. Then when Sherri’s name came up, we were like, ‘Yes, that’s who we need.'”
As sister Sherri, Sherri Martel managed Harlem Heat for nearly four long years. The team went on to win the WCW tag titles multiple times during this time. Prior to this, Sensational Sherri had managed, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, etc.
It seems Hogan knew Sherri’s star power would help Harlem Heat grow. Also, The Hulkster was part of a feud with this tag team in 1997. This is when Booker T made a huge botch in his promo while calling out Hogan.
Booker T once shared The Hulkster’s real motive in pushing Harlem Heat in WCW
Appearing on The Big Thing podcast last year, Booker T shed light on a rumor about why Hogan was pushing Harlem Heat in WCW. The six-time world champion expressed his views on the same.
The 58-year-old said, “There’s a rumor that Hulk Hogan got paid money as well for doing that. I have always given him [Hulk Hogan] props for speaking up for my brother [Stevie Ray] and I, but there’s a rumor that he made money off of merchandising from Harlem Heat being successful, but I thank him for putting a word in for us.”
