Memes have been a new-age tool for communication on social media. It can be straight funny, punny, or bordering satirical, depending on the need. Like a good punchline of a joke, if done well, a meme has the potential to strike a chord with the netizens. Unfortunately, a news outlet’s meme on Brock Lesnar didn’t sit well with fans, who were left bemused by it. The post left many wondering if the 45-year-old wrestling legend had breathed his last.

Social media users wasted little time to let the outlet know about how they felt about it and it was a lopsided affair.

On the recent episode of Monday night’s RAW, Lesnar told budding WWE superstar Mustafa Ali to get a life. This would generally make a great meme since the former WWE champion ended his advice with the word “kid”. However, BT Sport chose to use a black-and-white image of Lesnar with the quote’s text written in white.

The template is usually reserved to pay condolences/homage after a person’s death and for the fast scrollers, it came as a rude shock.

This person’s comment encapsulates the general feeling towards the post: “Y’all scared me for a sec, I thought we lost Brock 🤦🏾‍♂️😩”

Another chipped in with “For the briefest of moments, while quickly scrolling and seeing this image and style of writing, I thought the worst 😶”

The meme had a hair-raising effect on this Instagram user: “Bro wtf I got goosebumps for a moment.”

It left one user with a plea for the future: “Bro don’t scare us like that 💀💀”

It’s hard to understand if this individual meant it as a warning or a request: “Don’t do that to me ever again.”

There were several similar comments, each stating their experience of assuming Lesnar’s death due to the black-and-white template of the meme.
