Former WWE star Jon Moxley has been a reliable act in Tony Khan’s promotion for a while now. Back in May 2019, Moxley caught a lot of attention making his AEW debut during Double or Nothing Pay per view. The shocking event led most of the fans to think that Moxley’s WWE walkout was nothing but a stepping stone to joining forces with the rival promotion.
But to their knowledge, that was not really the case.

WWE has seen a lot of new signings and departures in the last few years. Moxley was one of them. The former US Champion scored a nice stepping stone to start his career under the WWE ring. That said he was not fulfilled creatively in McMahon’s promotion. And at one point in time, he was done with his stint for good like many other wrestling stars. “I was gone one way or another. I was going to give it all up, I didn’t give a f— if I was never on TV again. I’d go wrestle in a f—ing mask in Mexico in a parking lot if it means having fun again,” he told The Messenger.

Coincidentally, it was the time when AEW emerged in the lore and caught the attention of the former Grand Slam Champion. Finally, he ended up penning a deal that has served him well so far, and he continues to bring goods to Khan’s table.
However, even if AEW didn’t exist, a promotion shift was fated for the 37-year-old. Recalling that time, Moxley said, ”If there was no AEW, I think I’d be doing the exact same thing, just in a bunch of other places. You’d probably see me in f****n’ Japan or Revolver, places like that. It probably wouldn’t be that much different.”
However, it seems like the AEW star still feels something should be changed in AEW and the entire wrestling industry as well.
Jon Moxley calls for a massive industry change following his return from injury
Moxley received a mild concussion during his AEW International Championship defense against Rey Fenix at the AEW Dynamite Grand Slam on September 20. It caused the wrestler to be benched for over a month. And after returning to action at AEW Collision last week, the star explained how difficult it was for him to stay out of the ring.
The former Dean Ambrose noted that the wrestling industry should take better safeguarding measures to avoid these injuries. Due to the scripted nature of the sport, it gets a bit challenging to identify when the fighters are really hurting. But Moxley believes better precautionary methods can put a stop to it to some extent.
