Dwayne Johnson just made the most electrifying return in WWE’s history on SmackDown last week. The video of his return garnered 103 million views on social media in less than a week. During his return, he met up with former nemesis John Cena backstage, who welcomed him “back home” with open arms.
But this was not the first time these two heavyweights exchanged pleasantries in front of the WWE fans. Back in 2013, John Cena poured his heart out to Johnson in front of a packed arena.

WrestleMania 20 was the last time the fans got to see Dwayne Johnson in the ring before he left for Hollywood full-time. Post that, he appeared in the WWE sporadically but never wrestled in a match. Then in February 2011, The Rock appeared on RAW and started a feud with John Cena.
In the following year, Johnson and Cena’s feud further intensified, which even cost Cena the WWE Championship against The Miz at WrestleMania 27. The next night on RAW, both Cena and Johnson came to a historic agreement. They agreed to settle their score with a match at WrestleMania 28 the next year. The feud further heated up with Johnson mocking Cena in his songs during the first “Rock Concert” segment since 2004.

Then these two juggernauts finally met at WrestleMania 28 with The Rock winning that bout convincingly. Post that, Johnson won the WWE Championship by defeating CM Punk at Royal Rumble. Johnson then resumed his rivalry with Cena in February 2013, leading to their iconic title match at WrestleMania 29.
That electrifying match ended with Cena becoming the new WWE Champion, Johnson and Cena spoke highly of each other in the middle of the ring. Cena gave his due respect to Johnson saying, “Because of you, I’m serious, you have no idea, I asked for a picture with you and me when I was 20 yrs old, working in a store in Venice, California. You’ve always been nice, you’ve always been respectful. Whenever we talked, you always told me to keep it up”.
To which The Rock lovingly replied, “I came back, for this very moment, right now, for them and for you, I believe in you,”. But things were not always this sweet between The Rock and John Cena.

In a 2008 interview with The Sun, the host asked John Cena about The Rock. Cena didn’t hold himself back and said it really irked him that The Rock was giving more priority to movies than the WWE.
He expressed his irritation over the fact that Johnson had mentioned in the past that he loved wrestling, but still chose Hollywood over WWE and the fans. Cena was also upset that Johnson couldn’t appear for the 15th-anniversary show of RAW due to his tight acting schedule.
