WrestleMania 18 is fondly remembered by fans for various reasons. While the historic event featured eleven incredible bouts, the one that stole the show was the iconic matchup between the Immortal Hulk Hogan and the People’s Champion, Dwayne Johnson. Recently in an interview, Hogan reminisced about his journey with DJ’s father Rocky Johnson, and shared an interesting anecdote about The Rock.
The Hulk Hogan and Dwayne Johnson connection
Hogan and the Rock, who have been the biggest superstars of their era, have etched their names in the history books of WWE. But while the Great One has achieved remarkable things, his father was also a great WWE superstar too.

Now in a recent interview with Theo Von, Hogan spoke about Rocky Johnson, father of the Rock, and also shared a fanboy moment featuring The Great One.
Hogan said, “I knew his dad; I traveled with his father for years. I started with his dad. We traveled whenever we were together. I remember Rock was about 7 or 8 years old. I threw my headband, and he caught it.”
It is fascinating to hear how far the connections between the two iconic stars go. Hogan concluded by adding that he shared a long, rich history with Johnson’s family and the Samoan lineage.
Years later, from catching his headband to meeting him in the ring, The Rock had his full circle moment as he battled Hogan on the Grandest Stage.
“Icon vs Icon” was a clash of generations
Dubbed ‘Icon vs Icon’, the matchup wasn’t a wrestling masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. Hogan wasn’t in his prime and was in no shape to have a brilliant match. However, the storyline, near-falls, and crowd participation compensated for the lack of pure wrestling. The fact that it had two of the biggest stars of different generations clashing against each other made this an even bigger match.
While the Rock was the babyface and Hogan the big heel heading into the match, the roles reversed big time on the night of WrestleMania in Toronto. Hollywood Hogan would get the applause of 60,000 fans, in a match that inspired everyone watching.
