Hulk Hogan, who started wrestling in 1977, believes that the struggles wrestlers endured during his time can’t be felt today in the business. He listed how the wrestling ring was a big factor in a wrestler’s physical condition, but ironically, it wasn’t well taken care of.

Hogan’s lack of willingness to cope with this situation also became one of his biggest regrets in his wrestling career. Now, he appeared on a podcast to talk about the same while also comparing it with today’s generation.

Ever since he started wrestling, Hogan worked inside a vast number of rings. While today, rings are mostly characterized the same way, back then, things were different. The Hulkster recently revealed that most of the rings used to have lumps or bumps coming out of them. Though it wasn’t much trouble visually, wrestlers who had to fall down in the ring were often met with a strong additional impact on their bodies.

Hulk Hogan sat down with Chris Van Vliet in an interview earlier this month. When the interviewer asked him about his biggest regret in pro wrestling, Hogan revealed that not changing his techniques to suit the ring conditions was one of them.

He opened up about the difference in situations by saying, “Now the WWE is so dialed in, they’ve got really good rings. They’re all very consistent.” Because of the inconsistent rings, Hogan had trouble ‘dropping his leg’ because he would fall on his back every time. He admitted, “So, all those years, dropping that leg in those rings with the board sticking up or laying on my tailbone, ‘Oh my God what was that, a rock in the ring? Oh my God was that a board sticking up?’ All those years, dropping the leg, I would’ve changed that and I would’ve never dropped the leg.

He believes that if he had instead used a ‘sleeper’ as his finisher, he could’ve avoided the pain he goes through now.

As a result of this situation in the pro wrestling industry, Hogan ended up having a number of issues with his physical health. Even to this day, he is going through numerous surgeries to help him improve the longevity of his body.

After he gave up wrestling for good, Hogan went for one surgery to improve the condition of his body. However, things went south from there, and by the time he was sitting in an interview in June this year, he had already gotten 26 surgeries performed on his body.

This is also the reason why he had to back off from wrestling all of a sudden, unlike other legends who still showed up in the squared circle once in a while.

Perhaps Hogan is asking the current generation of wrestlers to be grateful for the privilege they have received.
