Wrestling stars bursting into tears dealing with some unpleasant aftermath of any grudge match is a pretty common sight for WWE fans. But you might not instantly recall any instance of sobbing for the opponent’s post-match physical hazards. This is what Hulk Hogan did for his larger-than-life rival and friend, André the Giant, after their historic clash at WrestleMania 39.

In the ‘Bigger is Better’ 1980s, Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant were the epitome of the term larger than life, both figuratively and literary. The duo butting heads at WrestleMania 3 wrote the greatest chapter of Hogan’s career, as he managed to beat the seven-foot-four Frenchman with some fascinating moves and maneuvers. That said, the Hulkster wasn’t all happy even after picking up the win.

Despite not being a masterpiece in terms of technical wrestling, the match has been monumental with many iconic moments. But those moments didn’t come without some hazards. The match took its toll on both competitors. Given his already existing medical condition, it was even more difficult for Andre to deal with all these consequences.

After the match was over, Hogan rushed to the dressing room and saw Andre in severe pain. The compassionate superstar couldn’t hold back his tears.

During the recent episode of the Full Send podcast, the two-time WWE Hall of Famer noted, ”he was hurting pretty bad. You know him and I had become really good friends at that point. Where the last 10 or 12 years we were really close before that we had some major issues but um at that point you know when I realized what he had done for me he just made my career. I was back there worried about him. I was back there crying like a baby. I was so upset that this whole thing had happened. ”

Hogan had massive respect for Andre. From rivals to friends, the enticing dynamic of their on and off-screen chemistry is formidable.

Both the super-talented men of WWE’s golden era tagged together numerous times in the ring. Although there was some real-life animosity in the initial period, it gradually turned into a warm friendship. Their chemistry served as the biggest selling point in their matches. Their alliance dates back to Andre, celebrating Hogan’s WWE title.

Despite having ups and downs in the relationship, Hogan had nothing but love and respect for his deceased friend.

In a past tweet, Hogan wrote after 28 years of his friend’s demise, ”We had our differences, and it really wasn’t fun when the Boss was p***ed off at me, but it was a very serious learning curve and in the end, we were like brothers. Love U Boss R.I.P. You were the best! HH’.
