Here’s the History Behind Female Wrestlers Performing at WWE Crown Jewel and Saudi Arabia Shows Over the Years

Barely a week remains till we hit November 4th and watch WWE’s Crown Jewel ’23 on our screens. This event is part of the WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia to bring two PLEs every year for 10 years, starting in 2018. This is what also kicked off the Crown Jewel on WWE’s schedule. Now that its foundation is already five years behind us, let’s look back at a notable change.

The Women’s Division didn’t get to perform for the audience of Saudi Arabia during their first event. However, this was overcome the following year when they introduced the first-ever female matchup for Crown Jewel. Apart from that, there is one other change over the years in Crown Jewel that you might want to take a look at.

WWE Women’s Division goes through changes for Crown Jewel

To keep the deal intact in the most pleasant way possible, the Stamford-based company tried its best to adhere to the social and cultural norms of the country. So, perhaps because of this, they might have avoided a female card during the first-ever Crown Jewel. But even when WWE introduced the Women’s Division in 2019, they made subtle changes to how the match played out.

In 2019, we saw Natalya and Lacey Evans battle it out in a singles match while wearing t-shirts, arm sleeves, and full-length leggings to cover their skins. Since it was the only female card for the PLE, we couldn’t see what other changes WWE made for their Saudi Arabian audience.

The 2020 event couldn’t be booked because of the global pandemic. But in 2021, the promotion returned to Saudi Arabia yet again with another female card. This time, it was Zelina Vega and Doudrop fighting for the ‘Queen’s Crown Final’, which ‘The Queen’ ended up winning. They stuck with the same costume code as in 2019.

At Crown Jewel in 2022, Bianca Belair defeated Bayley in a Last Woman Standing match for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship while both the wrestlers were wearing body suits like they do back in the western live shows. The only difference was that the body suits they wore covered most of their skin.

Although the costume for this year is still a mystery, WWE has already revealed to us that they will be having two cards to represent the promotion’s Women’s Division.

Where and at what time to stream Crown Jewel ’23?

In Saudi Arabia, the main cards will begin at 8 p.m. on the 4th of November. However, those residing in the countries following ET/EST/EDT should check in with Peacock or other WWE streaming partners to stream the PLE starting at 1 p.m. onwards.

So far, a total of six matches during the main card have been confirmed. Out of these, there are five title bouts. So, the event appears to be an intriguing one.
