It’s almost always a delight when an old wrestler decides to hit the ring again. The excitement surpasses all levels when they are returning to the promotion they have most notably worked in. Although Rob Van Dam‘s wrestling career has led him to several other companies, he is much loved by the WWE community. Despite what the wrestler had contributed to the promotion, WWE might not want him back inside their ring.

The reason behind this was explained by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. In his recent podcast, the former wrestler defended the company’s decision on why they wouldn’t take back RVD for another run.

In 2007, Van Dam willingly left WWE to spend more time with his family. However, that wasn’t the end of his wrestling career. In fact, his run was far from over. The coming years, till now, have seen the former WWE champion working for several promotions. WWE is still not among the company names that are giving the 52-year-old a chance to perform. According to Booker T, this is justified at the promotion’s end.

In his ‘The Hall of Fame’ podcast, Booker T shed light on WWE’s potential reason for not letting RVD back for another one of his career runs. “When somebody comes into the Reality of Wrestling that, you know, the mid-thirties, I question them. I go, man, do you want to do this? I mean, you’re going to be around a bunch of young kids here, you know, you, you might feel out a, you might feel like the kid that, you know, got held back in high school, 3, 4, 5 years,” explained the former wrestler while taking an example of his own promotion.

Booker T appears to be pretty convinced as to why WWE is not letting his old wrestling friend back in their squared circle. According to him, the age factor is holding the company back from offering him another run. However, there was a time when fans were speculating about his return to his old promotion.

Why did the fans think RVD would be back in WWE?

Rob Van Dam was a big part of the WWE Draft this year. Alongside Michael Hayes, the two announced the second round of WWE’s draft picks for this year. Around the event, RVD received a tweet from an excited fan. In the tweet, the fan confessed that they were hoping for the wrestler to draft himself. The tweet closed with the hope that he might pull this off in the next draft.

To excite his fans even more, RVD replied to the tweet by saying, “I’ve heard that quite a bit.” This tweet stirred up some speculations regarding whether the wrestler is returning to WWE or not. The doubt was answered with the passing of time as he didn’t return to WWE. However, the former WWE and ECW Champion did recently show up in AEW and even competed in a match on the recent edition of Dynamite.

Even though the wrestler still hasn’t given up on his wrestling career, WWE appears to be out of the picture.
