By now, many in the WWE universe might be aware of the fact that CM Punk and Seth Rollins are the best of friends. Okay, not actually; as friends, they’re as good as Superman and Doomsday. And Survivor Series 2023 felt the tremors of a return that led to the resurrection of past vendettas, as the ‘Cult of Personality’ made his return.
And what was Seth’s reaction? Well, just a few expletives and him flipping Punk off. But why the animosity?Have the two ever squared off one-on-one? Let’s find out.

Seth Rollins and CM Punk are no longer just superstars but have established themselves as megastars in the pro-wrestling realm. But the two seem to really hate each other, especially Seth, who has always been quite vocal about his dislike for Punk. And, when ‘The Cult of Personality’ decided to steal the spotlight away from the Architect’s victory in War Games, Rollins could not control himself anymore and had to be held back by security and Michael Cole.
He even voiced his strong opinion of Punk as he said later on, “You guys watch WarGames last night? [Fans chant ‘CM Punk’] You already know how I feel about that. I said as much last night. I’m not gonna waste any more breath on somebody who’s been gone for eight years, has done nothing but try to tear this place down. Instead, I want to take my time… use my breath on talking about the people who’ve been here all along.”
With the two almost coming to blows in the Survivor series, the question looms: have they ever battled it out one-on-one? And the answer is yes! On the December 30, 2013, episode of Raw, CM Punk went one-on-one with The Shield’s Seth Rollins. But did Seth win the match?
Well, the answer to this question is no. The match ended with CM Punk winning by pinfall. Though there have been other matchups between the two with multiple tag team encounters against each other, they also managed to team up together for a match in NXT on August 23rd, 2012. With Seth always being the one to be outspoken on his thoughts toward Punk, has the ‘Cult of Personality’ ever mentioned the Architect in the media?
The Punk perspective
2019 saw Punk return for the first time since his departure in 2014. But rather than an in-ring appearance, the 45-year-old returned as a pundit on WWE Backstage. It was then that Rollins and Punk got back to feuding on Twitter. Considering Rollin’s disdain for Punk returning, he even challenged him to a match.

Being the ‘merc with the mouth’ of the pro-wrestling world, Punk dismissed Rollins on the WWE Backstage show by stating, “I want my journalistic integrity to be intact, so this isn’t the show where you come on and shoot your little angles. Seth (Rollins) needs to stop tweeting and realize that sometimes it’s better to be viewed as the fool and shut your mouth, or open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Well, it looks like this ‘fire burns’ till eternity. (You see what we did here?). But with the two feuding again, this time in-ring and in the WWE, fans cannot wait to see what occurs next. But for now, they’ll have to wait as Rollins is set to face Jinder Mahal for the title.
