CM Punk has been following the Straight Edge for a very long time. However, it is not just CM Punk, but Phillip Jack Brooks, who was originally a straight-edge member, and who blended it into his character. While this idea was liberating for the pro wrestler, it also gave him another element of uniqueness within the WWE locker room.
But, CM Punk wasn’t always a straight edge society man. This begs a very obvious question. Has he ever strayed from the rules of the straight edge society, whose ideals Punk strictly follows? More importantly, why did he start with the straight-edge way of life? Let us take a deep dive and find out.
When CM Punk broke the no alcohol rule of the straight edge way

Seven years ago, during a comfy night in 2017, CM Punk was attending the birthday party of Harley Race. The now-deceased pro wrestler, promoter, and trainer was a highly important figure in the US pro wrestling scene. While everyone knew about Punk’s straight edge beliefs, Race insisted he take just one shot of alcohol.
The straight edge society members follow a strict code that involves abstinence from alcohol, smoking, and drugs. Many even switch to a vegetarian or a vegan diet. That night, however, respecting his senior whom he greatly admired, CM Punk obliged and broke the straight-edge code. But, this doesn’t mean that CM Punk doesn’t take his straight-edge beliefs seriously.
In fact, he adopted this lifestyle because of an issue that influenced his whole childhood. Punk’s father was a terrible alcoholic and was a source of chaos and discord in his life and his family.

When Punk was introduced to the straight-edge society, he naturally wanted to be a member. But, while this was when Brooks adopted the code, the pro wrestler side of him embraced these ideals way later.
When WWE started the straight edge storyline of Punk
CM Punk used to feel like an outsider many times because of his beliefs. However, he made his pro wrestler image more congruent with his real self on the advice of one of his ex-girlfriends. This made the WWE creative team also pick the angle up and create a new stable. The Straight Edge Society stable had four members: Punk, Luke Gallows, Serena, and Joseph Mercury.

The stable was more of an entertainment and promo group than a fighting group. CM Punk preached about the straight edge ways to fans and also took in new members, who were supposed to get their heads shaved to join.

But, these activities were put to a stop by Rey Mysterio and The Big Show. The group disbanded soon after, with Gallows and Serena being released.
