The Undertaker has been in the WWE and the pro wrestling business for over two decades. He has witnessed the good, bad, and ugly side of things. However, like one of his moves, he’s old-school and isn’t a big fan of the modern wrestling style. A recent comment by Taker had the fans riled up. Moreover, they believed there is a disconnect between The Deadman’s words and reality. However, after carefully thinking about what he had said, Taker took back his words.

The Undertaker has given a significant amount of his life to the business, including an undefeated streak to someone who did not deserve it.

While on The Joe Rogan podcast, Taker mentioned watching the current WWE product came as a difficult proposition. He described the modern-day product as “kinda soft.” This rubbed the wrestling legion the wrong way and the WWE icon came under criticism. However, Mick Foley and Goldberg sided with Taker, claiming to have taken bigger bumps back in the day than compared to today.

Despite saying all that, Taker recounted his words on the Sixfeetunder podcast, where he said, “There are a list of protocols that you have to clear once you get injured before you get back in the ring.” Taker said this when a discussion about the safety protocols ensued. These guidelines came in place to ensure injured wrestlers had proper clearance before they entered the ring for another bout. These prevent pro wrestlers from injuring themselves even more after a medical recovery.

Taker went on to explain that there were protocols to ensure safety back in their heyday. However, no trainers traveled with the wrestlers in the past. “If someone is concussed or injured to a point, the match is going to stop, and the athletes are going to be treated the way they need to be,” Taker said. He also added, “I have to be honest, for me, it was hard to accept that at first.” This was due to the generational gap between the legend and the other wrestlers.

Taker also said that he was grateful for being part of the generation that ensured these protocols were set in place. These help wrestlers from fatal injuries that not only can halt their careers but also take their lives.

The WWE before safety protocols were in place

WWE ushered in the new safety protocols as one of the biggest changes in order to limit the physical injuries wrestlers incurred. An enthralling spectacle involving chair shots to the face went out of commission soon after.

Another known change was the constant medical checkups and alcohol restrictions. This ensured that wrestlers were not mixing their medication with alcohol, which resulted in multiple wrestlers passing away.
