After several months of successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship, Seth Rollins may finally have to lose his title to a rising WWE star. Gunther has proven his worth when it comes to title reigns and new reports suggest that he may be taking on the current WHC at WrestleMania 40 this year.

However, there haven’t been any reports regarding the WWE Intercontinental Champion losing his title. So, when he was recently asked about whether he would keep or lose his IC Championship after defeating Rollins, he had an interesting answer.

How does Rollins’ title mess with Gunther’s legacy?

Recently on Monday Night Raw, Gunther made his intentions clear that he aims to win the men’s Royal Rumble this year and challenge Rollins for his championship in the biggest PLE of the year. Things didn’t seem that serious until reports about this booking started to come in. Fightful finally asked the wrestler about his views on the same.

In a recent interview, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful talked to The Ring General about whether he would carry two titles at the same time after defeating Rollins, or vacate the IC Championship.

He started off by saying, “I haven’t really thought about it. It’s a decision that has to be made. I have to start thinking. It’s a sensible topic.” The top star then added, “On one hand, the challenge is very interesting. On the other hand, I don’t know if it does the title justice if it’s a side project.

Gunther further confessed that he has not yet solidified his idea behind the same. However, if he plans to vacate his title without a historic climax behind it, it could negatively impact the legacy he has built by being the longest-reigning IC Champion in the history of the title.

This alteration in the booking scene with Gunther challenging Seth Rollins for the title will not only change the future feuds for these two stars but will also bring changes to a match that fans were eagerly waiting for.

Gunther’s hunger for the World Heavyweight Championship may also affect Cody Rhodes’ story

While talking about the increasing possibility of how Gunther could end up wrestling Seth Rollins for his title at WrestleMania 40, Sports Illustrated also reported that in such a case Cody Rhodes will face CM Punk in the WrestleMania instead of Roman Reigns. And “The Tribal Chief” will wrestle against “The Rock” in the main event.

This change is likely to take place only if Gunther is confirmed against Rollins at Mania this year. Since fans would be deprived of Rhodes’ ‘complete the story’ arc at the biggest PLE of the year, there was an outrage on the internet.
