The wrestling world is buzzing with the recent antics between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. The hype more specifically revolves around the anticipation of seeing two-needle movers of the business take their grudges out on each other during a one-to-one match. Along with this line, veterans are busy analyzing the chance of victory for each star during Raw next week through their expert lens. That said, Bulley Ray chose a unique angle to reflect on.

He suggested that a potential main event match at WrestleMania, featuring CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, for the World Heavyweight Championship would be an ideal call. The WWE Hall of Famer deems it as a tool to thwart Tony Khan.

Cody Rhodes and CM Punk both made it to this year’s men’s Royal Rumble battle while eying a main event spot at WrestleMania 40. They also resemble each other to a great extent as far as the trajectory of their careers is considered, putting a halt to their respective WWE stint and more recently, cutting their AEW ties to come back home (WWE).

Although both of their reasons behind parting ways with AEW differ a lot, with one aiming to finish his story in WWE and the other falling victim to a grave controversy, both were manhandled by the AEW head in some way or the other.

Bubba Ray Dudley holds this as an opportunity to show Khan how much gas the wrestlers still have left in their tanks to set in such a huge match and take the fans by storm. Ray wanted to make Khan understand that it was entirely his loss to let Cody Rhodes and CM Punk slip from the AEW roster.

During the latest episode of the ‘Busted Open’ podcast, Bully Ray noted, “One of the first things that comes to mind about Cody vs. Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is a giant middle finger to AEW. Do I think that’s going to be on purpose? Well, maybe. Here’s your two biggest stars that you let leave, or they left, or whatever the reason they were there but I’m over here now, and those guys would main event night one.”

Where the WrestleMania plan is still up in the air, let’s look at the immediate future of a Cody Rhodes-CM Punk rivalry.

Given that The American Nightmare is more than determined to come out victorious from the Tropicana Field and Punk got in his way, he could be more ferocious in tackling the former world champion on Raw next week.

On the other hand, Punk isn’t the one to hold his tongue, either. So, intense words of war are what we can look for. The heated segment could also end up in a massive one-to-one brawl in the later part of the show.
