Pro wrestlers are known for their ability to enthrall fans with amazing feats of strength and agility. However, at the end of the day, they are humans too and like ordinary humans, have an impressionable mind. While fans are influenced by wrestlers, the latter themselves are fans of individuals from other walks of life. A former WWE superstar revealed how her obsession with supermodel Naomi Campbell influenced her to make an elaborate plan, which fizzled out quickly.

Naomi Campbell was Trinity’s inspiration behind her early WWE gimmick

It is no secret that former WWE superstar Naomi, who goes by the name Trinity in Impact wrestling, is a fashionista. A look at her Instagram profile will corroborate the aforementioned statement. The 35-year-old has admitted to being influenced by supermodel Naomi Campbell and quoted her as an inspiration behind her WWE name- Naomi.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo, the new Impact signee said she had an elaborate plan where her gimmick would copy the 52-year-old runaway sensation. “That’s where I picked my first wrestling name; that’s where I came up with Naomi because I had this idea. I couldn’t use my real name, that was the initial one I wanted to use. But then I was like, maybe I can be this knockoff Naomi Campbell in the ring,” she said.

However, the concept never worked out and while she got rid of the idea, Trinity was stuck with her in-ring name, Naomi. The Anoa’i family member, who made her WWE debut in 2009, said, “When I originally came in, I would be a heel, so I had this idea of being this bougie, shady, wannabe supermodel who was just not it. But I did it for like a few weeks, but I was like, this ain’t it.”

Throughout her 13-year career, Trinity won the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship twice. She was the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion- alongside Sasha Banks– at the time of her exit in 2022.

Recently, the Impact Wrestling star opened up about her departure from the Stamford-based company.

Trinity says WWE exit a blessing in disguise, accepts feeling crushed

It took Trinity Fatu more than a year to stage her pro-wrestling comeback after walking out of WWE in March 2022. The 35-year-old has said in a recent podcast appearance that she was left broken by WWE’s behavior, which played a role in her walkout.

“To go through the backlash and negativity and the lies and the rumors and also feel lost, it really broke me. It was probably the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life,” she told Busted Open Radio.

However, she later added that her decision to sign with Impact was the “best choice” for her.

Meanwhile, Impact announced its international tour earlier this week. The company will travel to Australia for four days starting July 29. Trinity is expected to play a major role in pulling crowds for the promotion.
