On August 5, the WWE Universe possibly witnessed the last of Ronda Rousey for the foreseeable future. Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan also witnessed two friends-turned-foes create history. Shayna Baszler and Rousey, two former best friends and ex-UFC peers, became the first women in pro wrestling to fight in a bout with the MMA rules stipulation.

Baszler won the encounter, but before she did, the 42-year-old revealed some unflattering details about the ‘Baddest Woman on the Planet’. The revelation was made during a promo that was aired by WWE, as part of their pre-fight setup.

It was all going well for the duo, who terrorized many opponents with their MMA skill set. With a shared history in the UFC, both Rousey and Baszler were known to be a strong pair, a force to be reckoned with. However, the Money In The Bank PLE, which emanated from The O2 Arena in London on July 1, would see their relationship go south.

Just weeks after being crowned as the new Women’s Tag Team Champions, Baszler shockingly turned on her partner at the said event. The act not only left the crowd dumbstruck but also surprised Rousey and their opponents- Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. As Baszler choked Rousey out, they inevitably surrendered their belts to the other duo.

In the weeks following the event, ‘The Queen of Spades’ started reasoning out her actions. “Being best friends with Ronda Rousey is accepting being in a toxic relationship,” she said. Baszler also mentioned how Rousey used her as a sparring partner, leaving her hurt after each session. “Everyday get beat up and have no money. It was the only option I had,” she said.

Elaborating on her struggle to cope with Rousey’s antics, Baszler said that she was used as a shield by her friend to protect herself from enemies. “She needed me to stand in front of her, so that she could stand above me,” Baszler said.

Ronda Rousey talks about the hard lessons she learned from Baszler’s betrayal

Rousey was also featured in the clip. Sharing it on Instagram, she hinted at the hard lessons she learned from the MITB event and the weeks following it.

“Law of Power #2: Never put too much trust in friends #RondaVsShayna #SummerSlam,” Rowdy Ronda captioned the post. The UFC Hall of Famer also disclosed the reason why she chose Baszler as her friend.

“When everybody was jumping on the ‘f**k me’ bandwagon, then she never jumped on. She was there for me in my absolute roughest times,” she said. But Rousey then proceeded to narrate a story about a stable boy and a king and their friendship, which eventually got the monarch killed.

Rousey equated herself with the king in the story, taking a shot at Baszler for turning on her despite getting a lot from the former SmackDown Women’s champion.

But Baszler had the last laugh at SummerSlam. She was able to put another choke on Rousey, who passed out, giving the 42-year-old the win. The storyline rivalry apart, it wouldn’t have likely played out any other way, given that Rousey has handed WWE a hardout date and will not be available after.
