Despite some initial hope, Dwayne Johnson‘s XFL dream recently met with a severe setback. The league met with a staggering $60 Million loss in its first operational year since 2020. The history of the XFL dates back to the early 2000s when it teamed up with NBC and WWF. The league’s debut season was blemished by scandals of inappropriate behavior. Despite Vince McMahon failing to revive the league twenty years later, the current co-owner Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson’s ex-wife, gave the WWE’s executive chairman due credit.

Only a few years ago, business tycoon Vince McMahon attempted a resurrection of the XFL, investing $200 million. But it didn’t help much. Soon after, the league declared bankruptcy and was forced to shut down because of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

In the aftermath, ‘The Rock’ decided to invest $15 million in the league alongside his ex-wife Dany Garcia, RedBird Capital, and a New York-based investment group. The new investors were very determined to make the drowning league a huge success.

In the present condition, it’s difficult to predict what’s next for the XFL. Garcia, 54, weighed in on how far it has come since the rebooting. She also made it a point to acknowledge McMahon’s contribution.

Despite Vince McMahon being bared from helping the new XFL owners from a legal perspective, according to Garcia, he offered them moral support from the very beginning. During a recent interview with Forbes, Garcia noted, ”he could not connect with us legally. You know he had very specific rules, but later on, he was just thrilled he knows us. He knows what we do”

”There was so much good. Like I said, it would not have been a situation where I would be acquiring or we would be acquiring if it wasn’t for the pandemic. I mean he had a real property and he had great numbers and those teams were playing fantastically so I like to think like we took the ball and we did a few things our own personal in a way, but we built off of the success he had.” she continued.
