The Hercules of Hollywood Dwayne Johnson is portrayed as a rough and tough person. His massive physique adds to his aura and puts him up as a less emotional person. However, despite such a dominant on-screen persona, the mystique surrounding his real-life personality diminished. And he cited the reason as the 2016 film, Moana.
The $680 million worth Disney animated film Moana, starred Dwayne Johnson in the lead role and became a worldwide hit. A fan-favorite among both children and adults, Moana carved its status as one of the most successful films of that year. The 2016 animated film saw Dwayne Johnson take up the role of the demi-god Maui. Hailing from a Polynesia lineage himself, Johnson took up the role and portrayed it wholeheartedly. However, while doing so, he would trigger his emotional side as well.
The 51-year-old actor revealed in an interview with ‘Good Morning America’ in 2017 that he felt an emotional connection with the role he portrayed. He stated that the plot and theme of the film, which was based on empowerment, leveled up his emotional side.
Johnson said, “I have never cried consistently through a movie more than I have with this movie. Just to be clear, they’re all manly tears though.” The film was extremely different from his usual flicks and lacked a romantic interest or a damsel in distress figure. It instead portrayed a powerful female figure.
The film would turn out to be a hit and earn $680 million worldwide. News of a live-action remake of the film came to the surface recently too.
