Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has returned almost intermittently on SmackDown’s weekly shows. The Great One has been the principal attraction of the latest shows of the blue brand until the last episode. He did not make an appearance and left the spotlight to Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, who had a confrontation in front of the fans.

However, the Rock managed to grab the limelight in the meantime. But this time, it’s not as a heel. But by breaking character yet again, to be a real-life hero. And what did he do? Well, it was a heart-touching gesture for a sick child.

The Rock’s wholesome performance

Taking to his Instagram, the Rock recently uploaded a video of him performing the song “You’re Welcome” from his blockbuster movie Moana. But why the special performance? Well, it was for a 2-year-old girl named Naomi, who is unfortunately really sick. So, collaborating with Make a Wish, the Rock uploaded this special post. In the captions, he gave some details on this make-a-wish, as he wrote, “Join me in a song. Naomi is 2yrs old and fighting the fight in the hospital with a brain disorder. Her wish is for Maui to send her a video of him singing “You’re Welcome” 

“As we know, there’s a lot of noise and negativity out there, but I deeply believe that positive energy, light and mana (spirit) can make a real difference in people’s lives – especially when it comes to our children who are struggling. Naomi I hope you smile with this song and Uncle Maui will sing “You’re Welcome” anytime you need it. Thank you everyone watching this for sending your mana and positive light,” the Hollywood star added.

Well, it seems like no matter how hard he tries to be a heel, The Rock will always be ‘The People’s Champ’. And this act of kindness surely proves it. Also, this would make the Rock fans question all the hate being received by the superstar. In fact, a legend of the sport too doesn’t understand the hate.

Since the beginning of 2024, especially after Royal Rumble 2024, The Rock has had a prominent presence in WWE programming. And this presence has drawn the ire of a lot of wrestling fans who question why the Rock had to be brought back to the WWE. And on the latest episode of Grilling JR, Jim Ross came to The Rock’s defense, praising his current performance and highlighting his positive impact on WWE. Ross expressed confusion at criticism from some fans. Arguing that it makes sense for WWE to take advantage of the availability of a star of The Brahma Bull’s magnitude.

He said, “It’s hard to read comments from those that criticize Rock’s return and how he returned, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseam. Stop and think about it. You’re a booker, if you’re running the show, and you get an opportunity to retain the services of The Great One, then you don’t even think about it. That’s a very easy decision to make.”

Despite being widely appreciated by fans, The Rock’s return and the possibility of facing Roman Reigns, taking Cody Rhodes’ place at WrestleMania XL, generated some controversy. This led to some fans seeing him as a threat to new stars, which has resulted in a decline in some fans’ appreciation for The Rock. What do you think?
