Cancer is among the cruelest of diseases to hit humankind. Be it any form or stage, the word instills fear among the masses. Recently, an ECW legend revealed his bout with a form of cancer. It immediately had fans join hands in prayers for the wrestler.

Just a few days ago, the pro wrestling world bid farewell to Iron Sheik and weeks before that to Superstar Billy Graham. Now each time a wrestler, especially one nearing retirement age or over posts news about their failing health, it leaves the fans concerned. This was the case with Tommy Dreamer’s announcement.

Tommy Dreamer shares details about his cancer

Dreamer is an all-time great as far as hardcore wrestling is concerned. The ‘Innovator of Violence’ found fame soon after joining ECW in 1993. He also lived up to the company name of Extreme Championship Wrestling as Dreamer featured in a series of brutal matches against some of the biggest names in the industry, including Mick Foley.

After leaving the company, he joined Vince McMahon’s WWE and worked in the promotion from 2001 to 2010. While Dreamer lessened his wrestling appearances as he grew older, he remained a prominent figure with stints in various wrestling-themed podcasts.

Speaking on his House Of Hardcore Podcast, the 52-year-old chose to reveal his fight with cancer. He referenced his shiny head and said if anyone is wondering why it looks that way, it is because of the disease. “Ladies and gentlemen, I had skin cancer. That’s right. Being a guido all these years has caught up to me. This is the third time I’ve had skin cancer,” he said.

Dreamer said that he has 42 stitches from the treatment received to cure his disease. In April, the ECW alumni had told his fans about taking a break from wrestling. During this period he lost his mother to a disease and his own ailment also surfaced, needing treatment.

But like always, Dreamer is not alone in his fight as fans sent their love and support on social media.

A staple for ECW fans was Dreamer’s feud with Raven. The two were part of several colored matches as they inflicted pain on one another in true gladiatorial fashion to enthrall the crowd. Years later, he also regretted some of their encounters, sharing that his in-ring opponent wasn’t keeping well. The former ECW World Heavyweight Champion also said that at times he wonders if he’s behind Raven’s failing health.
