In its almost 40 years of existence, the WWE has had many great wrestlers. And sometimes, their children also follow in their wrestling footsteps. As in the case of the Anoa’i and Rhodes Dynasty. Both these families are highly respected in the pro wrestling business for producing world-class athletes. In the current generation, we have ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns who dominate RAW and SmackDown, respectively.

Both these wrestlers have already had a feud that led to their title match at WrestleaMania 39, which Rhodes sadly lost. But apparently, this family feud goes back another 43 years due to their Fathers Dusty Rhodes and Sika Anoa’i.

Dusty Rhodes and Sika Anoa’i fought against each other in 1980

Most rivalries in WWE start between 2 people of the current age. But some feuds go back to their previous generation. The rivalry between their fathers continues with honor and respect, even in today’s day and age.

Cody Rhodes returned to the WWE in 2022 and he went on to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. He put on a tough fight but lost the match after interference by The Usos and Solo Sikoa. This rivalry is yet to get its sweet ending as Rhodes is still eyeing a shot at the title maybe at WrestleMania 40.

But the feud between these two wrestling dynasties goes back to 1980, when ‘The Samoans’ made up of Afa and Sika Anoa’i faced Dusty Rhodes and Patt Patterson. ‘The Samoans’ were the Tag Team Champions then, and so Rhodes and Patterson were gunning for title glory that night. But the team of Afa and Sika Anoa’i were more commanding that night and hence won the match and retained their WWE Tag Team Championship.

But this was not the last time Dusty Rhodes and Sika Anoa’i wrestled together.

Andre The Giant, Dusty Rhodes, and Ivan Putski wrestled against Afa, Sika & Samula Anoa’i in a 6 man tag match in 1983

This match happened at the famed Madison Square Garden, New York on 30th July 1983. ‘The Samoans were still the WWE Tag Team Champions then in their 3rd reign.

And let’s be honest, any match involving Andre The Giant in his prime becomes larger than life for the fans, as was this match. Fans were at the edge of their seats to watch this power-packed wrestling bout.

‘The Samoans’ were known to deliver menacing headbutts, and one such headbutt sent Andre the Giant back to his corner of the ring in pain. Both teams put on a valiant fight that night. But in the end, Andre the Giant destructively sat down on Samula and pinned him, thus winning the match for his team. But going back to Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, do you think Rhodes will get a title shot again at WrestleMania 40?
