Ric Flair has had a wrestling career that has spanned over 50 glorious years. He started wrestling in 1972, having matches with legends like Dusty Rhodes and André the Giant. Then in 1974, he joined Jim Crockett Promotions.
That’s where Flair took on the “Nature Boy” gimmick that he would use throughout his entire career. He started using the moniker “Nature Boy” in 1976. But there was another wrestler named Buddy Rogers who also used the same moniker.
Flair spoke about the same on his recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, which is a YouTube talk show hosted by Three-time Super Bowl Champion Shannon Sharpe. Sharpe asked him, “If I’m not mistaken, I think Buddy Rogers was the first Nature Boy and then you came along. So how did that go? Did you ask him?”.

To which he responded, “No no, it’s great, No. George God gave me the idea, and apparently, he asked Buddy, but I did meet Buddy, so he really was, he did dress in tan and that great physique, much better than mine. He came walking into the locker room in Greensboro, he looked at me, walked over and said, ‘Buddy Rogers kid, remember one thing, there is only one diamond in this business and you just met him’. Hence, diamonds are forever. He was slick man”.
And Flair’s legacy continues to shine in pro wrestling even today.
