Dwayne Johnson is a busy man, always creating new projects for his fans to entertain with. This year, fans got to see many of his new projects come to life like XFL, multiple movies, and whatnot. But one project that the fans have been waiting for since last year has not gotten any update whatsoever.

Last year, ‘The Rock ‘announced that he was working on a very interesting Hollywood project. He hinted that the project involved some aspects of video games. However, there have been no updates on the project since last year. This made way for speculation as people wondered about the status of the project.

What did Dwayne Johnson say about his much-awaited Hollywood project last year?

During an interview with Men’s Journal in May 2022, Johnson disclosed that he is working on a secret video game movie project. He didn’t offer details about his secret project. However, he said, “I’ve always been a big Madden fan. I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year.

“We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most bad-ss games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course, we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie,” he added.

It has been more than a year since Johnson teased about his secret project, but the fans haven’t heard anything else about it. Therefore, it looks like he has shelved the movie. Or maybe he is just building more intrigue among the fans so that when he drops the bombshell, fans would be left in utter surprise. If the movie does see the light of day, it won’t be his first movie based on a video game adaptation.

Johnson’s movies that are based on video games

‘The Great One’  has been a part of video game movies in the past. He featured in a total of four movies that are based on popular video games. These movies include Doom, which was released in 2005, Rampage, which was released in 2018, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which was released in 2017, and Jumanji: The Next Level, which was released in 2019.

It is worth noting that all of these movies were well-received by audiences and critics alike. The actor garnered acclaim for his performances in these movies, with one exception. According to some, Doom didn’t live up to their expectations. All of Johnson’s projects attain success, but a few setbacks can occur sometimes. No big deal, right?
