Earlier this August, WWE held its annual SummerSlam event. The 2023 version of the PLE took place at Ford Field in Detroit. It featured several exciting matches, with Roman Reigns and Jey Uso’s Tribal Combat slotted as the main event. The bout has generated significant interest among fans, especially after the setup by those involved, weeks prior to that. But the encounter did not live up to the expectations, as evidenced by reactions from fans and experts alike. WWE legend Eric Bischoff is the latest to join the dislike bandwagon.

Bischoff used his podcast, 83 Weeks, to air his grievances about The Bloodline saga at SummerSlam 2023. The legendary booker also discussed what was a major turn-off for him from the said match.

Bischoff has been a supporter of The Bloodline story for some months now. He has praised the work put up by Roman Reigns and his cousins in the past few months. However, the 68-year-old didn’t enjoy what he saw on August 5.

“I was disappointed. The expectations have been so high for anything Bloodline-related because it’s been so awesome for so long. This wasn’t, this was maintenance, this didn’t advance anything in my opinion,” he said. Bischoff said that while the performances from those involved didn’t lack technicality, he sensed a lack of emotion.

“My visceral response was I was bored. I did not enjoy this match at all,” he added. However, he wasn’t one-sided in his analysis of The Bloodline.

While he chose to come down hard on the SummerSlam performance, the former on-screen General Manager of RAW had massive praise for the Samoan stable and WWE creative.

“The Bloodline storyline is, by far and away, the best story that’s been crafted for professional wrestling in any of our lifetimes,” Bischoff said. Like it or not, The Bloodline has been instrumental in driving the WWE numbers and economy in recent months.

SummerSlam 2023 among top three most watched WWE events on Peacock

The 2023 edition of the PLE set multiple records, including the highest gate for a non-WrestleMania event for WWE. According to the company, the PLE in Detroit brought in $8.5 million for the company.

The show was also the most watched SummerSlam ever. The amount generated from sponsorship was up 23 percent from last year. WWE earned $7 million from its sponsors.

Merchandise sales also saw a rise of 60 percent from previous years. With so many records tumbling and rewritten, one has to give credit to Reigns and co. as they headlined the PLE.
