Despite NFL Season Kicking In, Pat McAfee Feels “Very Confident” About Working in WWE Again

One name that is synonymous with SmackDown is Pat McAfee. The former football punter started off as a commentator and analyst in 2018. He occasionally performed in the ring too. He slowly made his way up from the NXT division to SmackDown. However, in 2022, he took a break from WWE to join ESPN’s College GameDay. He made brief appearances here and there. But fans were wondering whether they would get to see him again or not.

To their surprise, he made a return to SmackDown last night along with Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnson. And that’s not all. He brought some positive news for his fans.

McAfee might return to WWE for good

In a backstage interview, McAfee opened up about how Michael Cole had changed his style as a commentator. Upon being asked what his views on the new Cole were, he said, “I love it. He always has to be the buttoned-up guy, doing the play-by-play, which he is the greatest of all time, bar none. I understand there’s a conversation for some other people, but they haven’t been paying attention close enough.” He further added, “What Michael Cole has done throughout his career at the WWE is second to none. But now he’s got a little attitude, a little spice, a little personality. He looks unbelievable”, exposing his support for Cole.

However, what he said next created a buzz amongst the fans. He said, “I’m incredibly lucky that I got to work with Michael Cole, and I am still very confident that it will happen again,”. This meant that he was not only looking forward to working with him, but he was also confident that he would make his return to WWE. Considering the fact that he mentioned in the interview earlier that he heard, “there was an opportunity to do something”, implies that he is in contact with WWE officials.

If the speculations do come true, it means that he will be making his comeback to WWE. This could also mean he will get a chance to go against his former rival.

McAfee’s rival might be waiting for him

After his break from WWE, he still had made a couple of appearances at the promotion. One of them was his appearance on WrestleMania 39. The hosts of the evening were The Miz and Snopp Dogg. For this event, The Miz had sent an open invitation for a face-off. To his surprise, McAfee showed up. The experience was not nice for The Miz as he was easily defeated by him and George Kittle, who was present at the venue.

As the wounds are still fresh for him, it is evident that he is looking for his payback. But his ongoing rivalry with LA Knight might overshadow McAfee’s return. But who knows, maybe Knight and McAfee will unite just to keep The Miz on his toes. Needless to say, fans are excited to see their favorite commentator making his possible return to the promotion.
