Despite Hating Each Other for 30 Years, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty Reunion Could Be on the Cards: “We Did a Lot of Things We Shouldn’t Do”

WWE’s developmental territory, NXT has been captivating the audience with the brightest prospects of the future. The former Black and Gold brand is currently building under the leadership of one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. Is there a need to guess? Probably not because every die-hard wrestling fan knows that the man is none other than Shawn Michaels.

The Heartbreak Kid knows a thing or two about outperforming everyone on big stages and being a highly skilled wrestler. Moreover, Michaels now spends his time passing on that knowledge and skill to younger athletes. However, a former legendary partner of Shawn has expressed his interest in joining him in an important role in NXT, despite their former real-life beef.

Shawn Michaels’ former tag team partner expresses interest in joining NXT

Before Shawn Michaels rose to prominence as the headliner, he was building his foundation as a tag team wrestler in the late 1980s. During that time, Michaels used to team up with former WWE superstar Marty Jannetty. Wrestling fans collectively knew the duo as The Rockers. They both emerged as a successful pairing during the golden era of wrestling. Moreover, Michaels and Jannetty even managed to win the tag team titles across several promotions.

Marty Jannetty recently appeared on the WrestleBinge where he praised Michael’s work in NXT and even stated that he himself would love to join the regime to train NXT talent.

“I could see that he had the knowledge and talent to be teaching younger guys. I would love to be there. My passion is to teach the new kids.”

Jannety also shared that his best times with the Showstopper were outside the squared circle.

“Parties. We would do every third week in Vegas, the showboat. We were young, we did a lot of things we shouldn’t do back then. The parties with the extras in it, besides the alcohol. And Vegas is the place that never sleeps… Vegas is like, you open the door and there’s a party out there.”

The Rockers were a highly popular tag team during the golden age. However, the real-life heat between Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannety has also been known by many wrestling fans. It all happened in 1991 when the duo got into a real-life fight and shortly after, split to go their separate ways as in-ring competitors.

The dissolution of The Rockers came during the memorable Barber Shop segment with Brutus ‘The Barber’ Beefcake in 1992. At the end of the segment, Shawn Michaels famously delivered Sweet Chin Music to Marty Jannety and tossed him right into the window pane. While the Heartbreak went on to become one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time, Jannety failed to make his place in WWE.
