Earlier, it was said that Cody Rhodes would wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 and complete his story. But with The Rock’s recent return, WWE may have changed some plans. According to the rumors going around in the pro wrestling community, it could be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who could headline Mania against his cousin this year.
If this happens, then how will ‘The American Nightmare’ complete his story? He already failed once in last year’s Mania. So does this mean that Rhodes’ story will remain incomplete? Let’s explore the possibilities.
Cody Rhodes can still finish his story

Even if Reigns faces ‘The Great One’ at Mania, Rhodes can still finish his story. Recently, WWE legend Bully Ray spoke on this matter in the Busted Open podcast. He pointed out that if Reigns loses his championship to Randy Orton (another betting candidate to dethrone ‘The Tribal Chief’), then Rhodes can challenge ‘The Viper’ at WrestleMania 40 to win the championship his father never could.
He said, “And then you do Randy vs Cody, where Cody can finish the story against someone who means a lot to him. There’s a nice story built into Randy and Cody also.” Ray also highlighted that it would make a perfect ‘Master and Apprentice’ storyline, given they share a lot of history.
He said that going about this way would put all the pieces together in the perfect manner without compromising on either match quality or neglecting fans’ sentiments. He also stated that this would set the perfect base for the Reigns vs. Rock rivalry.

In the same interview, Ray added that ‘The Big Dog’ losing his WWE Universal Championship to Orton would kill two birds with one stone. Rhodes will get to finish his story and the match between Rock and Reigns will be a lot better without the championship on the line.
According to Ray, Rock vs Reigns will be a flop if the championship is involved. Because Johnson has been absent from the wrestling industry for a while now and if he wins the belt out of nowhere, the match will lose all its meaning. Plus, if the bout follows the winner getting ‘The Head of the Table’ rights stipulation, then it will add more value to the match.
