Cody Rhodes, Who Lifted WWE to New Highs, Amusingly Addresses His Role in Bankrupting Local UK Promotion: “I’m Pretty Sure I Bankrupted Them”

No doubt leaving WWE in 2016 and going on his own in the independent circuit helped Cody Rhodes rise in the wrestling business. The American Nightmare became a huge draw wherever he wrestled. Since Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022, he has taken the company to new heights. However, he recently jokingly shared about bankrupting a local UK promotion.

It is an amusing statement as, wherever the 38-year-old wrestled post his WWE departure in 2016, that promotion has made good money.

The American Nightmare loves having new challenges. Hence, in 2016, he left Vince McMahon’s company and went to wrestle in the Indies. During that time he had matches all around the world in numerous promotions.

Recently during the WWE Money in the Bank Press Conference, he jokingly shared once bankrupting What Culture Pro Wrestling. Rhodes was sharing his experience wrestling in the UK when he shared this.

The former two-time Intercontinental champion said, “These tours over here are just gangbusters. These crowds, we were in Newcastle last night and on my side of things at Sheffield, It’s a special thing that you’ve got going on here.”

He added, “It’s the reason for when I was on my little excursion, while I was here every week with What Culture Pro Wrestling, I’m pretty sure I bankrupted them (with my) booking fee. But it’s a special thing and you got to see it tonight.”

Clearly, he wasn’t seriously making the above statement. The booking fee was on the higher side for The American Nightmare as he was a former WWE superstar at the point.

Now he is back home for more than a year and is the top babyface of the company. Rhodes’ primary goal in WWE now is to finish his story i.e. win the WWE Championship. While he continues to be on that part, the 38-year-old has also been a huge part in making WWE a tremendous amount of money.

Rhodes’ had to sign a new set of merchandise hours before Money in the Bank!

The American Nightmare is the most popular babyface in WWE. Cody Rhodes merchandise is getting sold out quickly for the past several months. A similar thing happened just hours before Money in the Bank PLE. 

The 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble winner shared about the same through his Twitter handle. Rhodes wrote, “…just found out we sold out of the weight-belts at o2 Fear not, dem merch boys at @Fanatics brought more 😂 Heading to autograph them now @WWE”
