Tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown came live from the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Cody Rhodes went face-to-face against Roman Reigns without The Bloodline. Rey Mysterio got his revenge match against Santos Escobar. The WrestleMania XL tag team qualifying match took place amongst much more. Here is everything that went down on SmackDown this week.

WWE SmackDown 3/22 Results

Backstage segment: Cody Rhodes was backstage getting ready to face The Tribal Chief tonight.

Rey Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar

Winner: Santos Escobar

The match started with both men doing their best not to let the other take advantage. Coming back from a knee injury, Mysterio kept his feet planted for the first part of the match. Mid-match, Mysterio pulled out all his high-flying moves against Escobar. Despite having the upper hand, Dominik Mysterio turned up to distract his father. This led to Escobar hitting a 619 of his own. This gave Escobar the win after a Phantom Driver.

Backstage segment: Bayley thanked Naomi for trying to save her from Damage CTRL. Bianca Belair interrupted and blamed Bayley for starting Damage CTRL while Naomi tried to stop the fight.

Backstage segment: Naomi discussed helping Bayley, while Belair claimed it wasn’t required. Naomi stood her ground but claimed she needed Belair’s help.

WrestleMania XL Tag Team qualifying match: The OC vs Grayson Waller and Austin Theory

Winner: Grayson Waller and Austin Theory

After showing up on NXT, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson took control of the match right from the start. Waller and Theory were no match for the pure strength of Gallows. However, Theory was able to pull off the win with a roll-up with his feet on the ropes. Gallows and Anderson looked strong but were no match for Theory and Waller’s cunningness.

Naomi vs Iyo Sky

Winner: Iyo Sky

Before coming out, the WWE Women’s Champion beat up Bayley backstage. Getting into the ring, she went straight for Naomi, who wanted revenge for last week. Both women looked incredible, exchanging blows. After a distraction from Damage CTRL, Sky got the upper hand, and after an over the moon sault, Sky picked up the victory.

Postmatch: Damage CTRL laid the beat down on Naomi before Belcair came out to help her. Unfortunately, the numbers game got both down and beaten.

Backstage segment: Nick Aldis is seen talking to Cody Rhodes with Paul Heyman in the background.

Video Package: Jade Cargill will be on SmackDown next week.

Backstage segment: Belair was seen helping Naomi clean her eyes after the Red Mist by Asuka.

Backstage segment: Kevin Owens was seen talking to Nick Aldis for a tag team match before The Pretty Deadly interrupted. Owens got Aldis to agree to a tag match between them with Randy Orton on his side.

WrestleMania XL Tag Team qualifying match: The Street Profits vs. AOP

Winner: The Street Profits

AOP seemed to have everything under control since the start of the match by laying out The Street Profits. However, things took a turn as the match went on. Both Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford showed great chemistry and in-ring awareness, holding AOP back. Gaining momentum, The Street Profits were able to pick up the win, earning their spot in the Tag Team match at WrestleMania XL.

Video Package: Backstage segment: We see LA Knight showing up at AJ Styles’ residence to start trouble. However, before anything could go down, the police intervened and arrested Knight. Styles did not press any charges but was upset at Knight showing up at his home. The build for their match at WrestleMania has been off the charts.

Cody Rhodes face-to-face with Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns, with Paul Heyman, came out to the ring to a standing ovation. After claiming that he was a man of his word, Reigns called out Cody Rhodes. The fans did chant that they wanted Dwayne Johnson. Unfortunately, he was not present at the venue. Johnson is set to make an appearance on the April 1 episode of WWE RAW. Once Rhodes got into the ring, Reigns wasted no time calling out Rhodes’ alliance with Seth Rollins. He recounted how Rollins betrayed him during their SHIELD days.

Rhodes retorted by reminding Reigns that he was among the first people to have beaten the SHIELD. Rhodes called out who the boss of The Bloodline was. He even asked if Reigns could trust Johnson. The segment ended with Reigns not accepting Rhodes’ handshake before exiting the ring. The Bloodline showed up and circled Rhodes, who was in the ring. However, Seth Rollins and Jey Uso showed up in the crowd, ensuring that nothing got out of control.
