Wrestling fans couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw The Tribal Chief get pinned for the first time ever in 3 and a half years. It was something they considered impossible inside the squared circle. Some actually thought Roman Reigns would remain victorious till the end of his career thus laying out a superior legacy.

But while history was being made by The Usos, it reminded The American Nightmare of his loss at Wrestlemania 39. Many felt that he should have been the one to break Reigns’ winning streak. Nevertheless, Rhodes broke his silence regarding the loss and revealed his mentality post the career-defining match.

Why did Cody Rhodes never speak up about his loss at WrestleMania 39?

The American Nightmare made his return to the WWE after 6 years in 2022 at Wrestlemania 38 in a match against Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins. The next day on RAW he revealed that he had returned to win his ‘holy grail’, the WWE championship. Something that his father, Dusty Rhodes could never get his hands on in his entire career.

When he got a shot against Roman Reigns to fulfill that desire at Wrestlemania 39, he suffered a loss due to numerous interferences by The Bloodline. Although he sorely regretted that defeat, he never went public about it until MITB.

Rhodes was asked by BT Sport how he felt about his loss to The Tribal Chief at WrestleMania 39. He said, “One thing I didn’t want to do was whine. My buddy, Sean Ross Sapp, half buddy, half not. He was saying, ‘I wish Cody would talk about how he got screwed at WrestleMania. I’m thinking, that’s not the way to do it, I’d be kicking my own a##. No. The story is unfinished. It is. I wanted to move and try to get back to finishing it.

“That’s where I was at. I quickly didn’t get over it, it’s not a pain you get over, but I quickly was able to chin up and move on to the next thing. Coming to Raw was really really really tough for me, from a character standpoint and a human standpoint. Very tough.” he added.

Just as Rhodes said ‘The story is unfinished’ and fans can’t wait to see the finale for this awe-inspiring journey of The American Nightmare.

Will Rhodes get to finish his story now that The Tribal Chief is vulnerable?

Roman Reigns is definitely in a state of utter disbelief post his defeat by his cousins at MITB. Not only was he pinned for the first time in 1293 days, he was humiliated in front of a capacity crowd at the O2 Arena in London.

And now that Reigns just has Solo Sikoa by his side, his defense, which once looked impenetrable, seems vulnerable. Cody Rhodes is just fresh out of a victory after teaching Dominik Mysterio a lesson at MITB in spite of ‘Mami’ trying to create some nuisance. But now, with all the minuscule problems out of sight, Rhodes will definitely want to focus his energy back onto something for which he returned to the WWE in the first place.

But Reigns is currently on Smackdown while Rhodes is on RAW. The only they could ever fight is if Rhodes gets drafted to Smackdown or wins MITB next year. We still have a long way to go for both these events. But the WWE Gods might just hear our prayers and make this Clash Of The Titans finally possible. Let’s hope for the best.
