Cody Rhodes Releases a 6-Word Message After Missing Out on a Match at Payback

Cody Rhodes was on cloud nine after defeating Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2023. With an unexpected, unscripted gesture from The Beast, Rhodes was set to embark on a new journey. However, with no match at Payback, Rhodes seems ready for the ‘Rub.’

The announcement that Rhodes will not be in a match at Payback has fans divided. However, his six-word post on social media about what he will be doing at the PLE has excited fans. 

Cody Rhodes will be on the Grayson Waller Effect at Payback

The August 25th episode of SmackDown was a great show with an incredible tribute to Bray Wyatt. The show started with a ten-bell salute to the recently passed away Terry Funk and Wyatt. A beautiful tribute package  was shown with fans cheering ‘Thank you, Bray!’ However, that would not be the only big moment of the night.

Following the tribute segment was the match between Rey Mysterio vs Grayson Waller. The match was excellent, with a ton of spots. Even though Austin Theory interrupted the match to help Waller, Santos Escobar came out to even the score. Rey hit Waller with the 619 and won the match. Despite losing the opening match of the evening, Waller had a massive surprise for the fans.

During the show, it was announced that Rhodes would be on the Grayson Waller Effect at Payback. The announcement stated that Rhodes would comment on finishing the story with Roman Reigns after his WrestleMania match.

On social media, Rhodes retweeted the post by WWE announcing his involvement with Waller at Payback. He captioned it, saying, “Time to meet the new guy.” Rhodes and Waller will sit face-to-face for the first time at Payback on September 2, 2023.

With the loss at the hands of Mysterio, fans suspect that the interaction of the Aussie star and ‘The American Nightmare’ could lead to a potential match at Payback later in the night. However, fans are excited to see what Rhodes will say to Waller for now. 

The Waller’ Rub’ on Rhodes could end up like John Cena

The Waller Rub, as Waller likes to call it, is what the wrestler believes is a push that can send others to stardom. He wanted to give his ‘Rub’ to Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, both of whom turned him down.

Cena hit Waller with an AA at MITB, and The Rock had words for him on social media. 

In search of anyone willing to take the ‘Rub,’ he went after LA Knight. Waller claimed he launched Knight to stardom during their NXT  Roadblock match in 2022. The ‘Last Man Standing Match’ saw both perform amazingly, with Waller winning. However, seeing Knight’s popularity with the fans, accepting the Waller Rub will be the first time Knight doesn’t give us a “Yeah!”
