Cody Rhodes Admits Fearing Hell on Seeing Brock Lesnar Removing His Gloves After Their SummerSlam Bout – “I Was Very Convinced”

Cody Rhodes has faced a number of foes this year since his comeback. However, his longest-running feud in 2023 was with Brock Lesnar. In a recent podcast, Rhodes revealed the psychological fear that Lesnar gave Rhodes. Despite securing one final victory over The Beast Incarnate at SummerSlam this year, the 38-year-old was still on his guard. According to him, he never expected Lesnar to do what he did after the match.

The road to settling the score with Lesnar was so hard-earned that Rhodes couldn’t believe it had already ended. While talking on ‘After the Bell’, The American Nightmare revealed his initial thoughts when Brock Lesnar removed his gloves inside the ring.

Cody Rhodes was not sure if the ‘fight was over’ against Brock Lesnar

The score between the two wrestlers following the Night of Champions was 1-1. So, to settle it down, they decided to meet for one final match at SummerSlam 2023. Cody Rhodes won the match fair and square after struggling for a long time after Lesnar dominated the proceedings. But when Lesnar stood up, removing his gloves after getting pinned by his opponent, Rhodes suspected that Lesnar wasn’t done with him yet.

The American Nightmare confessed during the podcast, “The fact that when he is taking his gloves off, looking at me, I thought for sure one’s gonna connect, I’m probably going up for an F5. I was very convinced that the fight wasn’t over.”

But to Rhodes’ and everyone else’s surprise, Lesnar shook hands with Rhodes, embraced him, and raised his arm to show his respect to him. Before Lesnar’s wholesome gesture, Rhodes was preparing to go for round two because of how unpredictable Lesnar can be at times.

Some fans even thought that the WWE legend was going to leave the promotion since he removed his gloves in the middle of the ring. However, this rumor was cut short soon after the event by an insider report.

Brock Lesnar’s future after SummerSlam

Removing gloves after a conclusive match at a big PLE led to speculation about Lesnar’s future in WWE. There were factors that led up to this rumor turning into a belief. However, during Wrestling Observer Radio following the PLE, Dave Meltzer addressed this thought process. The wrestling journalist also discarded the belief by countering it with the fact that Lesnar has been already booked by WWE for future events too.
