Last November, he starred in the least-expected comeback in WWE history. Now, two months away, CM Punk will miss WrestleMania 40 after suffering an injury at the 2024 Royal Rumble. This unfortunate incident transpired during his first televised match since leaving the company a decade ago.

Marked as one of the favorites to win the Royal Rumble and, with it, star in one of the two nights of WrestleMania 2024 in Philadelphia, neither will happen with CM Punk. The former AEW star suffered the decisive injury as he squared off against Drew McIntyre. And while he might be missing a lot of in-ring action, the WWE has a different route planned for ‘The Cult of Personality’ as they want him on commentary.

CM Punk tore his triceps during WWE’s first premium event of 2024. It was near the end of the Royal Rumble that Punk suffered the heart-wrenching injury. And with an injury that requires surgery and rehabilitation, he is looking at a long break away from fighting in the ring. However, his friend Ace Steel recently appeared on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast where he was asked about a possible role for Punk on WWE TV until making his return to fight again. Responding to the question, Steel said, “Definitely, they want him on commentary.”

This would be an exciting opportunity for Punk as well as his fans as well are all aware of how talented the former WWE Champion is when it comes to mic work. And with his blunt attitude and in-depth knowledge of all things wrestling, it can be an amazing opportunity to capitalize on.

However, steel stated that he would like it if Punk is not made a part of the commentary team of Monday Night RAW as the red brand features Drew McIntyre and it would be difficult not to advance the story between them. But with Punk not being able to do anything on a physical level, it would be a missed opportunity. Ace Steel hopes that if WWE decides to have Punk be a commentator, he should be a part of NXT instead.
