Former WWE and AEW Champion, CM Punk was invited to an interview on December 16th. Speaking during an Instagram Live for a fundraising mission, Punk talked about his current run in WWE. He also discussed his previous run with the company and some of his major rivals including Rey Mysterio and WWE legend John Cena.

CM Punk recalls his rivalry against John Cena

Punk referred to his rivalry with Cena as a well-coordinated match where the two superstars synced together to create memorable matches for fans. Despite being over 12 years ago, fans still remember their rivalry from 2011, just around the Money In The Bank PLE. Punk found the matches to be fun and easy.

Despite having a major rivalry with Cena, Punk praised the GOAT of WWE as “the guy who is pretty much the engine that makes the company go” while explaining his work relationship with Cena. He said, “And then be entrusted enough to work with John Cena. Pretty much like every day, every night for quite some time. We were like married to each other. And it was always a night off, it was always easy.”

CM Punk and John Cena had great on-screen chemistry during their rivalry that spanned over 5 years in the company. The two superstars shared 14 matches within the ring and many promo segments. Hence, Punk made ana analogy for the same with that of a married partner.

Punk and Cena started working with each other in November 2009 on RAW up until the RAW episode on February 25th, 2013. During the period, they had 14 matches where Punk won 6, Cena won 6, and 2 matches ended in a no result.

In the same interview, Punk also talked about his rivalry with Rey Mysterio, which Punk described as a Litmus test. Interestingly Punk would be continuing on the same rivalry during his second innings with WWE.

CM Punk continues his 12-year-old rivalry in a new way

CM Punk would face Dominik Mysterio in his first match since returning to WWE. Although, the match would be in a Live Event at the Madison Square Garden on December 26th. The rivalry stems from his feud against Rey Mysterio in 2011 when Dominik was a teenager.

Punk was recently seen promoting his upcoming match against Dirty Dom. During commentary for the matches at CFFC #128, he urged fans to come see him beat up Dominik Mysterio.
