Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque had left fans on a cliffhanger with a major announcement last week. It was revealed that a former WWE Champion was set to return to WWE after a long time. While the name was not revealed, fans might have a name now. The spotlight now moves to Dwayne Johnson as a recent sighting hints at a potential comeback in the new year.
Is Dwayne Johnson the rumored return?
Dwayne Johnson was recently sighted at the College GameDay broadcast just hours before Raw Day 1 2024 kicks off. He was seen in conversation with his friend Pat McAfee along with business partner Dany Garcia. The episode is being shot in Pasadena, California. Why this might be a major hint is because Pasadena is just hours away from San Diego where this week’s Raw is set to take place.

Johnson had pulled off the same trick in September when he showed up at the SmackDown venue in Denver, Colorado. The star was near the town, for another episode of College GameDay with Pat McAfee. Following the shoot, the two gatecrashed the episode of SmackDown where Johnson surprised everyone with his return. It could be possible that a similar pattern might be followed today as well.
If Johnson does return to the WWE how will the star fit in the current picture?
How Dwayne Johnson could fit into the current WWE roster?
While Triple H has said that a major star will be returning to WWE on Raw Day 1, he has not specified which brand the star will be going to. Something that WWE might experiment with if The Rock returns might be the same ordeal they did with CM Punk. When the Second City Saint returned, he was seen on the episodes of Raw, NXT, and SmackDown, before he signed with the red brand. WWE might try to recreate this with Johnson too.

WWE might try and test his star power before he is finally made a part of one of the three brands. Considering his past run with WWE, there is a high possibility that Johnson will be a part of SmackDown. On top of that, even if he does return, he might work in a part-time capacity. The reason is his multiple commitments. The star recently revealed that his minor football league XFL will be merging with USFL. Apart from this, he has multiple Hollywood projects lined up. So if he does return, fans won’t be able to see him much often. Do you think Dwayne Johnson will be returning to WWE?
