What started at the Iconic O2 Arena in London on the night of July 1, 2023, reached its end at Ford Field on August 5. These 30+ odd days were filled with intense drama that saw two best friends bury their relationship and take shots at each other. The two stars under consideration are former UFC peers Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler.

At SummerSlam 2023, Rousey and Baszler faced each other in a historic match. But before that, Baszler dropped an emotional comment about Rousey’s daughter, La’akea. The comment appeared on the pre-match promo that was used to hype up the encounter.

Baszler and Rousey’s friendship had stood the test of time until it all fell apart at Money in The Bank on July 1. The two have a shared history in UFC, where despite being younger in age, Rousey coached Baszler. They were also responsible for creating the women’s division in the MMA promotion, with Rousey being the first woman to sign with the UFC.

Having spent a lot of time together, the two women shared a strong bond. When Rousey’s daughter La’akea was born in September 2021, Baszler was chosen to be her godmother. Now, as the 42-year-old’s friendship with Rousey has been relegated to a thing of the past, she spoke about the difficulties.

“God, you know what the worst part about this whole thing is. Outside of her husband and her mother, I was the first one to hold her baby. I love that kid. My goddaughter,” Baszler said.

However, she also left a chilling statement about the toddler’s mother. “She’s gonna grow up, and she’s going to never forgive me for what I’m going to do to her mother, Ronda Rousey,” Baszler added.

When they met inside the squared circle at the August 5 PLE, the duo became the first women to be a part of an MMA Rules match in pro wrestling. The stipulation meant there were only two ways allowed to obtain a win- knock out and submission. Baszler managed to choke Rousey, who passed out, giving the elder peer a win.

Meanwhile, Baszler had her plans chalked out beforehand. She had also predicted the move earlier.

Baszler’s chokehold that ended it all

In the aforementioned pre-match promo, Baszler had promised to strike Rousey where it hurts the most. “I’m going to take the thing that means the most to Ronda Rousey. I’m going to take her reputation,” she said.

The Queen of Spades also disagreed with Rousey’s self-proclaimed ‘Baddest Woman on the Planet’ nickname. She instead insisted that it suited her better.

The chokehold that Baszler used to get her win was redolent of the move she used on Rousey at The O2. This move not only broke their relationship, but it also played a crucial role in determining the winner among the two. That said, Baszler also shared a post-match photo of her with arm braces on, indicating that she sustained injuries during the bout.
