The Second City Saint is back on the red brand as advertised and seemed all ready to spitfire in Chicago. Making a long-awaited comeback to his hometown tonight on Raw, CM Punk made sure to let the world know what he’s all about. Apart from having a predictable confrontation with Drew Mclntyre, Punk got on the nerves of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and even his old nemesis, The Rock.
CM Punk dropped a massive tease to revive 11-year-old rivalry with The Rock
The former AEW star had a tumultuous history with the Rock with their feud starting back in 2011 with an explosive pipe bomb promo. Then two years later, the two powerhouses butted heads for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2013. The Rock got the upper hand, ending CM Punk‘s historic reign at that time. The former AEW star changed up the wording but had the same venomous intent he displayed in the past. So is a CM Punk vs The Rock loading? Well, even if it won’t materialize immediately, it will pan out sometimes, eventually.
CM Punk will again face off against The Rock someday
Their last encounter was full of controversy and heightened hype. Just when Punk almost clinched his victory, Vince McMahon did his thing. He didn’t seem impressed by The Shield’s abrupt interference and ended up declaring the match unlawful and summoned a restart. The second interaction went mostly in The Rock’s favor. In a watershed moment, Johnson launched his signature thunderous People’s Elbow on The Second City Saint and defeated him via pinfall.
It marked the shattering end of Punk’s championship reign. The decision stirred a lot of controversies and disappointment, but WWE never got the chance to sort them out. Now, when both of the stars are back in the promotion, it will surely be a good call to relaunch that half-finished business, especially when Punk seems to be up for it.
In a Raw interview tonight, The Seventh City re-affirmed his tease saying, “I’m glad. I’m glad Rock’s back. It’s good to see that he knows his role, and he’s kept his mouth shut. Anything goes here in this new era of WWE. Me being back, I’m gonna cross paths with everybody sooner or later,”
