On August 11, Rey Mysterio beat Austin Theory to become the new United States Champion. Theory lost his belt after holding onto it for nearly nine months. The development on SmackDown soon became a topic of discussion amongst fans and industry experts. ECW legend Tommy Dreamer too had his say. Theory didn’t do much after beating John Cena at WrestleMania 39, with his run coming to an underwhelming run. Dreamer stated a unique theory, holding Cena responsible for the 26-year-old’s current debacle.

Dreamer made the comments on the Busted Open podcast’s weekend show.

Austin Theory scripted history in 2022 by cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase for the US title during an episode of RAW. Theory became the first wrestler in WWE to go for a mid-card title while exchanging the coveted briefcase. While he failed to capture the belt from Seth Rollins, Theory won it after several weeks.

This move was termed weird by Dreamer. “His, that whole why he chose that Money In The Bank thing, that was weird, but he continued on his path,” Dreamer said in a part criticism, part praise of the former US Champion. He next highlighted the effect of John Cena in Theory’s title run during their feud.

“I don’t wanna say he took a step back versus John Cena, but John Cena kind of schooled him,” The Innovator of Violence said. He added that it kind of cooled the run that Theory was enjoying. The 16-time world champion had also received criticism for his match against Theory at WrestleMania 39.

Dreamer also pointed at Austin Theory’s rivalry with other stars post his win against John Cena at the marquee event as reasons that derailed his run as the champion.

But despite the criticism, Tommy Dreamer also had words of encouragement for the superstar.

Tommy Dreamer predicts bigger things for Austin Theory

The end of one thing ushers the beginning of another. This is what Tommy Dreamer said about Austin Theory’s career. “Austin Theory has a whole new platform to continue his path,” Dreamer said.

The hardcore wrestling legend stated that Theory can now look to focus on becoming a world champion in the WWE. He also name dropped two current superstars who could start a feud with the 26-year-old.

“I feel his path is to be a WWE World Champion, but I don’t know against who. Could be a Seth [Rollins], could be Cody [Rhodes],” Dreamer added.

While Seth Rollins, the current World Heavyweight Champion is engaged in a feud with Finn Balor, having fought The Judgment Day leader in consecutive PLEs, Cody Rhodes doesn’t have a fixed target currently. But then again, The American Nightmare doesn’t possess the belt that Dreams envisions for Theory. For that, he’ll have to challenge The Visionary.
