Imitation is the best form of flattery, but originality sets the biggest impression. Every WWE superstar has their own distinctive persona. But sometimes superstars draw inspiration from legendary pro wrestlers for their on-screen characters.

That being said, WWE SmackDown star LA Knight‘s on-screen character is very similar to the on-screen character of Dwayne Johnson. And a WWE legend Bully Ray believes that this is hindering his growth as an individual in the company.

While speaking Busted Open podcast, 51-year-old Hall of Famer heaped praise on Knight. He mentioned that the former million-dollar champion has a great cadence. And he does everything that a WWE superstar should do to build a connection with the WWE Universe.

But somehow he is still struggling to click with the audience. Ray then pointed out that his character’s similarity to Johnson’s may be the primary reason for his failure to accomplish well-deserved recognition in the industry. He feels Knight should use his own persona rather than imitating ‘The Rock’ if he wants to succeed in WWE.

He said, “Maybe [the fans] don’t like that his cadence and delivery and everything else is so reminiscent of The Rock. Maybe they feel like it’s too blatant of a ripoff and too similar. I don’t know. I’m really grasping at stuff here to try to find a legitimate reason why LA Knight has not been thrust into the spotlight a little bit more.”

Well, Ray was not the first person to point this out. Recently, WWE female superstar Zelana Vega made a similar comment about Knight.
