Away From the Title Picture for 6 Months, Is Cody Rhodes Finally Set to Enter the Race for Gold at WWE Fastlane?

Ever since, Cody Rhodes faced Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania 39, he has not been in the title picture. He feuded against Brock Lesnar in a three-match series, which ended with Rhodes conquering the beast at SummerSlam and even earning his respect. But, Rhodes has been away from the championship picture at WWE since his return.

But with an upcoming PLE Fastlane on 7th October, there are possibilities that Rhodes might be in the title picture again. But will WWE pull the trigger on Judgment Day to push Rhodes towards a title scene?

Possible matches for Cody Rhodes at Fastlane

Fastlane is just a few days away and WWE has only confirmed four matches for the show. There will be more matches for the show and a possibility that WWE’s top star Cody Rhodes will have a match at Fastlane. Let’s explore the possible options for what may happen with Rhodes.

1. Rhodes will win Tag Team Gold with Jey Uso:The Judgement is working as the top heel stable of the WWE. The duo of Damian Priest and Finn Balor are the Undisputed Tag-Team Champions after defeating Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed tag team titles at SummerSlam. KO and Zayn lost their rematch as well at Payback. Hence, WWE might offer a new team a shot at The Judgement Day at Fastlane.
   
   
2. Lose the tag-team match with Jey Uso:
   Rhodes has shown a positive attitude towards his former rival since Jey Uso’s drafting to RAW. However, some mishaps may lead to Rhodes losing due to Jey Uso. It might lead to a possible feud with Jey Uso till WrestleMania season.
3. Four-on-Four match at Fastlane:
   Cody Rhodes might team up with Jey Uso and KO-Zayn to challenge The Judgement Day (with JD McDonagh) for a 4v4 match. This way both teams will have a member on their team the other person doesn’t trust. Owens with Jey Uso and Priest with McDonagh.

WWE has some creative challenges with Cody Rhodes

WWE has multiple challenges with Cody Rhodes as he is one of the top superstars in the company. Hence, Rhodes can’t feud against lower midcarders as it might diminish his star power on the show. On top of that, WWE needs Rhodes to be in red-hot form till his p0tential WrestleMania 40 match against Roman Reigns.

Rhodes has been a former IC Champion and Tag-Team Champion during his previous run with WWE. So, adding the tag-team title belt to Rhodes won’t elevate his status further. It could however give him a meaningful program before WrestleMania, something he hasn’t had since his feud with Lesnar.

Another interesting fact about Cody and the tag titles is that he’s actually pinned Roman Reigns to win the championship with his brother Goldust (now Dustin Rhodes). This coupled with the fact that he would be winning gold with Roman’s right-hand man may add a layer to their rematch that makes it all the more compelling.
