The pro wrestling community was shaken to the core on Friday evening when it was announced that Vince McMahon had cut all ties with WWE and the TKO Group. While people in the community are shocked, a few have shared their thoughts on the matter. However, amidst this news, AEW received some compliments from a former WWE star.

Tony Khan’s AEW gets some compliments

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), former WWE 24/7 Champion and current AEW star, Maria Kanellis-Bennett shared how she feels working along with Tony Khan and his promotion.

Kanellis’s pro wrestling career started with WWE. Back in 2004, she participated in the WWE Diva Search. While she secured a fifth position amongst other stars, she was immediately hired by the company. However, her WWE career was full of hiccups as the star departed from the company in 2010.

She again debuted at WWE back in 2017 where she won the 24/7 Championship title. She again left the company in 2020 and after a couple of years on the indie circuit, joined AEW back in 2022.

It was announced by Sean Ross Sapp that WWE’s CEO, Nick Khan has circulated an email to the company’s employees talking about the news. At this moment, it is important to take a look at how Vince McMahon shaped the pro wrestling world.

As Vincent Kennedy McMahon navigated his early years, the challenge of living with different stepfathers loomed large, a consequence of being abandoned by his own father during infancy. Fate, however, dealt a curious hand when McMahon later crossed paths with his estranged father and found himself in the fold of the wrestling company, WWWF, an inheritance from his grandfather. McMahon embarked on his professional journey with humble beginnings as an announcer for wrestlers, evolving into the role of a commentator over time.

Fast forward to 1979, and McMahon, fueled by a sense of independence, joined forces with his wife to acquire Titan Sports Inc. This move wasn’t a mere whim; it was a calculated step. While his wife managed legal affairs at a law firm, McMahon rolled up his sleeves, dedicating himself to the grind of company growth. The toil bore fruit, and by 1982, armed with accumulated profits, McMahon made a pivotal decision – purchasing WWWF from his father and reshaping it into the WWF. This transformation mirrored McMahon’s unwavering determination to chart his unique course in the expansive landscape of professional wrestling.
