There are more than a few WWE wrestlers who have recently tried to leave wrestling to make the leap to the world of cinema. There are the cases of Dwayne Johnson or Dave Bautista. The problem they usually find is that they are not taken seriously and are only given roles as musclemen without many lights in action movies. It was the same for John Cena. He has entered as best he can and has been carving out a niche for himself with characters like Peacemaker. But now comes a unique opportunity for him to prove his records and win over the public.

The actor will be one of the protagonists of ‘Ricky Stanicky’, the new film by Peter Farrelly. So the 16X World Champion has been trying his best to promote the film. Whether it be through playing baseball or appearing in interviews. However, in a recent interview appearance, he had to face the dreaded “Is wrestling fake?” question again. WWE wrestler Austin Theory recently slammed an Australian journalist for calling the sport ‘fake’. The incident took place when Theory was in Australia for the Elimination Chamber event. And now it was Cena, who had a creative reply to deal with this time.

Cena deals with the Wrestling is fake debate

The 16x World champion recently appeared on the Open Thoughts YouTube channel to promote his latest movie. And it was during the interview that he answered several questions about his film as well as wrestling. However, it has become somewhat common that if there’s a wrestler in an interview, he or she has to deal with critics calling or questioning wrestling as fake. And that is what happened with Cena in this recent appearance. However, when asked the question, he had an amusing reply. He asked the interviewer Funny Marco, “I guess we need to we need to settle on our definition of fake. So let’s do that. To you what is fake?” To this Marco answered that to him fake is something as if it’s portraying to be something else that it is not. And that’s when Cena replied with, “Okay well then by that definition wrestling is not fake. Because it is what it says it is. It is sports entertainment.”

Now that’s one way to answer it. Let the interviewer question their own belief on what’s fake and if wrestling meets the criterion. Well, this time John Cena made sure that he did not lose his temper while answering the question. But this wasn’t the first time that he had to face the “Wrestling is fake” argument.

Cena straight forward answer to the same question

During an appearance on Ballin’ Out Podcast, John Cena decided to address the people who called wrestling fake. He pointed out that it is not for everyone and that the WWE does not even claim to be real. So there’s no point in pointing out the obvious. He said, “When the company’s name is World Wrestling Entertainment, we openly say in the name of the company that it is entertainment. You are buying a ticket, you are clicking on the WWE Network, you are watching USA Network to be entertained through sport. It is scripted. We say it in the title, so for somebody to come out and say, ‘ah, it’s fake!’, it’s like saying Game Of Thrones is fake”

He further added, “I don’t mind if someone says, ‘well, that type of entertainment isn’t for me’ because we’re not for everyone. When they say, ‘oh, wrestling’s fake!’, that is ignorant. That is no idea of what we do. That is a cop out. That’s a short answer and that is like, ‘well, I haven’t even taken the time to give it a second thought’. That’s not right and I don’t even pay that any mind”. With echoes of ‘The Hangover’, Cena’s latest film will arrive on March 7 directly on Amazon Prime Video. The star-studded lineup features the likes of Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, Jermaine Fowler, and Cena himself.
